Just found the left shed from the Jon Schmucker buck.
The deer was shot two years ago in Adams County Ohio and scored right at 300".

A good friend of mine was out not long ago and stumbled across this shed.
It had been sitting under a thick grouping of cedar trees and was partially covered.

I am in awe. That shed alone weighs as much as some of the deer in my neck of the woods...

Incredible mass. Good job putting the WD can in for scale.

I've never seen a shed make it two years in my neck of the woods. I bet that is a different buck still out there.

That is my thought as well. I originally posted it, but it sounded rude the way I said it. so I deleted it.

To be honest, that shed looks like it is from this year. 3 years is a long time for an antler to live in the wild.

Antlers, at least in these parts loose their color and turn bone white in a couple of months which leads me to agree that it is less than a year old. I can't ever remember finding a shed older than six months that wasn't completely white. Of course if it were laying under a cedar tree totally covered from sunlight it is possible. You can see where rodents have been gnawing. That is an awesome find.

I totally agree. The lucky finder should tell no one about the location and look forward towards an exciting hunting season!

It is positively the Schmuker buck.
Photos of the buck two years previous show it and so too do the photos of it when it was shot. There are far too many similarities to the rack when it was shot, such as both the G-3 and G-4’s have three points branching off.
Also, the shed was found within hundreds of yards from where John shot the buck.

In addition, the thicket of cedars where it was found is extremely thick. No sun light can get in and also it was buried by cedar needles.

Regardless, it makes no difference, got my eyes on two that are alive and just about as big!
Within five miles of where John shot his.

One more note.

Notice the long point shooting forward off of both G-3's about mid way up the G-3.

Also, both have crab-claws at the end.

I am not familiar with Whitetail genetics. However, with roe deer which is a relative to your deer it is quite common to find bucks within a given area which look very similar or show at least the very same antler type.

I wonder how many times we thought we saw the very same buck while in fact it was a full or half brother.

There is no way that shed is less than a year old. First of all it was found under a tree, without direct sun light, it won't bleach near as fast. Plus look at the first few tines, they,ve been eaten by mice. And the bottom half of the shed has been under dirt for some time.
