I'm tickled, I Drew my first Iowa Gun Season Buck Tag. All three of us drew that put in.

Now it's time to get that MLer tuned up. It's Shotgun or Mler only and I feel I'll have a little better range w/ my Savage inline.

The landowner currently lets two guys come and hunt every year and he said they always get their Buck so, That makes me have some confidence in our spot. We will be hunting in zone 3 on a small farm that is mostly wide open farm land but, has a wooded creek bottom running through it.

I'm going to arrive a day or two before the season so, hopefully I'll be able to find some fresh sign and hang my climber.

Maybe w/ some luck it will be a succesful hunt.

Reloader,

Congratulations! I was not so lucky. This is the first time in 15 years that I have not drawn. Between my grandmother and uncle I have access to about 600 acres of private ground in the loess hills (unit 3 between Missouri Valley and Magnolia). I am really bummed! I live across the river in Nebraska, so I have to pay the rediculous NR fee. What town is the farm you are hunting close to? With the ammount of deer Iowa has right now, they should let everyone shoot three!

Good Luck,

BOWHUNR

Thanks Bowhunr!

Sorry to hear you didn't draw, hey, they'll be bigger next year.

We will be hunting close to Oakland on a 600 acre farm that has a wooded river bottom running through it. The land owner said we'd probably have no problems tagging bucks, he said there were lots of deer on his place.

This will be my first Iowa hunt. The landowner is going to show us around two days before season and I'm going to slip in and hang my climber about noon the day before the hunt. I may just hunt on the ground if the trees aren't cooperating.

I hope it goes well.

Good Luck!

Sounds like you will be hunting the Nishnabota bottom , and that is a cherry spot.

But don't overlook small pockets of cover out in the open.....grass water ways , fencerows , grass backed terraces and the like. Many times a big buck will hold up in a little spot he figures the hunters won't look at .

What I don't uderstand is why anbody should have to even draw a tag.

Iowa's DNR says they have more deer then they know what to do with.
