It's the last day of the season and the bucks still have not started to rut around here. Also there were hardly any acorns probably because of the drought. Took a buck last week just because the freezer was getting low and saw 2 others but those are the only legal bucks I've seen here all year. They must be in town eating somebody's roses.
Anybody else do any good?

That’s interesting Russ. We’re not hunting that far from you (about 30 miles), but I’ve been seeing good rutting behavior for over a week.

There aren't a lot of acorns, but some trees are loaded. The pigs figured out to start looking for them about two weeks ago and the deer have started looking for them this week.

One low area on the ranch we hunt has had does and fawns all season, but no bucks. A small fork was with them a week ago on Friday afternoon. That Saturday morning a wide 3x3, that I’d never seen on any cameras (or in person), was hanging out with those does. Then that afternoon there was a tall and heavy fork hanging with them and the 3x3 was gone. The next morning (last Sunday) we took a three point in the area that I’d never seen before. Then yesterday morning we got a nice 3x4 hanging out with those does. I hadn’t seen him since he was in velvet in June.

Up higher on the same ranch there has been a wide fork coming to water in the middle of the night on one camera consistently by himself all summer. Yesterday morning that buck was standing on an open hillside in the broad daylight with two does.

Kyler,
Sounds like you had a good season. With the season being as late as it was this year I had high hopes that the bucks would be rutting but they never kicked in this year. Maybe because it has been pretty warm all year they never got the message, at least not where I am.
The buck I took a week ago had some bruises so he had been sparring but there didn't seem to be much interest in the does.
Should leave me some room in the freezer for a pig though. Wink
Russ
