Was my opener today (a day late getting here), but what a first day :

- had a bear walk up to 12 yards from me before full sun up! Big old sow - really cool

- took the first bird 30 mins into the first set : perfect set-up, and tom came right in, to about 8 yards, beat the snot out of the decoy, and down he went

- nothing on the second set

- third set the birds (probably 3-4) were about 700 yards out, so closed the gap, and called them in the last 100 or so, and tom #2 was in the bag, all by 7:17am

Good first day out for me!

Moved to another piece of ground I can cover (across the state line Smiler ) and had an awesome morning - had the birds roosted by a friend, so was in there at ~4:15 this morning, and by sun-up had 6 birds gobbling within 500 yards - this guy came running into my decoy and I couldn't pass him up!

My season is over (in 2 days... which is a pity), but was a blast!

Sweet!
Whacken and stackem.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Sweeeeeeet! One heck of a day. Must be nice to live where one can hunt turkeys without fear of being molested by other turkey hunters.
