FURocious: I Hunt year round daylight and dark for all manner of Varmints as well as all legal hours for Big Game from spring Bear to fall Antelope to winter Deer and Elk. I much prefer the standard (thinnish) Leupold Du-Plex reticles in all my scopes both fixed power and variables. I have never had trouble using them in any lighting condition during legal shooting hours for Big Game!

Gentlemen

I like reticle 4 or 4A for all hunting. German 1 is also a very nice reticle.

I totally agree! Those reticles are perfect for use in Scandinavia!.

I hear you. If I can't see I don't shoot. If light conditions get so low I can't make out a standard thickness crosshair, then I shouldn't be shooting. Target identification, quick and humane kills are what I like. I'd rather shoot an animal in the morning or the day, makes everything much easier.

When dark, the height of the recticle in my opinion is easier to see with the #4s cross than with the #1. But then, when hunting at night distances are short and the prey is usually hogs which are big enough for a little vertical error.

i like my S&B #7 in the FFP. the reticle stays the same size in relation to the target on every power. The posts are 50" apart @ 100 yards which makes ranging big game easy on any power and its bold enough to use in low light.

In my Hunting rifle(3006) duplex reticle(thick with thin center cross),front lens is 50mm.This works perfect in low light conditions also.(Leupold scope)
In warmint rifle (22-250),thin cross,Leupold also,6-20.
In 45-70 and .375 open sights only.

For most of my B.C. hunting, I prefer the Leupy Heavy Duplex and the Leupy VariXIII 1.75x6 scope.
