That rifle is absolutely an infant to Ray, but seems old to a young man like me, I'm a yr younger than Ray! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Swede,
You're my kind of guy.
My all-time favorite whitetail rifle is an 1892 Springfield Krag, which I sporterized in 1954.Every September I load up a fresh batch of ammo, and sight it in.
I also dabble with a few other old favorites for hunting. My 1873 Trapdoor Carbine was made in 1886.My 30/30 Winchester Carbine was made in 1971.My 30 cal GI Carbine was made in 1944,and my brand new Savage 99 was made in 1952.

I small game hunt with my old '94 Marlin(circa 1906) 25-20. 24" Tapered Octogon barrel, and Williams 5-D peep. Use Lyman 257420 Cast and 13 gr. 4198. What a hoot!
Going to get a deer this year with the 1953 model "R" 99 Savage, 250-3000 that the family gave me for my 50th birthday. Both got here in 1953! Factory drilled and tapped, so it's got glass on it.
My ol 270 700 is about 32 years old so it is way too young for this thread!

My son is going out this weekend with a sporterized .303 brit SMLE. Took his first antelope with it. Took down two whiteails last year...he plans on two more this year. Tried to move him up to a mauser or a savage 99 ... now dice...loves that SMLE.
That kid is just as stubborn as his old man...
