I drew Eufaula State Park for a shotgun hunt but no such luck on elk. My father has sent in for the Wichita Mt. elk hunt for 20+ years and has never drawn. It seems to me that several years ago I remember Bill Jordan drawing out on an Oklahoma Elk hunt, it doesn't quite seem right does it?

In 2001, after 20+ years of trying, I finally drew the Wichita Mts. elk hunt and killed a nice 6X6 bull.....In 2003, I drew a buck antelope tag and killed an average buck...would have drawn a deer hunt in 2003 too, but drawing the antelope tag kicked me out of the deer drawing (those who put in with me for deer drew out).....before 2001, I hadn't drawn a special hunt for 15 years.....
This year, my youngest drew a youth hunt and my dad drew the buck antelope hunt.......I'm working on finding him a place to hunt antelope.
My wife has never drawn anything, but we do concentrate on the harder to draw hunts......

GonHuntin; If you have trouble finding places to hunting Cimmeron County, let me know. I have contacts with a couple of folks out there. One lets you hunt for free, but there is no cover on his place. The other charges $ 200 tresspass, but his place is awesome. In addition, the biologist on your OWD notice can hook you up. He told me last December that he had several farmers who WANT hunter to cull the goats. Practice for 300 - 500 range shots. Hell of alot of fun. Call me if you want more info. See my profile, I have full contact info there. Best wishes on your hunt. It will be a hoot.
I hunted it in 2001......I was shocked at the number of people who shot little bulls the first morning! The worst I saw was a 6" spike a guy shot on a bull tag......what a waste!!! Tell your cousin not to get in a hurry! I decided not to shoot anything smaller than a 6X6 until the last day.......just so happened, I killed my bull by 9:00 the first morning.......he was the 5th bull I saw. The success rate on bulls is very high, much higher than on cows!
Here is a photo of my bull......pretty good elk for Oklahoma......

A Mulie is the only big game animal in OKLA that I haven't taken.......would have gone out west for one last year but elected to hunt with my dad while he can still go.......I saw some good mulie bucks when I was in Cimarron Co. hunting antelope in 2003.........I hope to get one someday!
Wish your son good luck for me! My youngest son drew an either sex tag at Spavinaw.......he drew the same hunt 2 years ago and killed a spike.....we learned a lot on that hunt and have a much better idea where to hunt this year.

Nothing this year or the previous 8. When you only put in for Wichita Antlered, Wichita Elk and Cimarron Antelope you can't expect much, but with the preference points I have I am not going to waste them on just any hunt. One question, how do so many ODWC employees get drawn for the premium hunts? I know of at least four game rangers that have been on the Antelope hunt. What are the odds of that?

I too know a couple guys that live around Keyes. We all went to OSU together and now for our annual reunion we spend the first weekend in December pheasant hunting out there. That being said, if you need a place to hunt I'm sure I could get you about 10,000 acres to tool around on.
Good Luck!
