And I kill the best deer of my life. It don't get no better than this. What a great day. I got to my club kinda late, A little after 4pm. I just thought I would walk in and set close to the property line where I had seen a little sign. As I started to leave my truck another club member came up. We started talking and he said he wanted to put a stand up real close to where I was going to sit. I told him that wouldnt be a problem and went down there with him to show him the sign I had seen and we talked a few minutes and I decided I would go and sit in my box stand. I was set up looking out my front window, mostly cause the other club member was probably about 400 yards in front of my shooting lane. Kinda thinkn he might run a doe by me. I had been there about thirty minutes and I glanced over my shoulder out my back window. About 75 yards from my stand out he strolls pretty as you please. Now I tell you the truth I kinda thought he was a cow horned spike at first, Then right in the middle of the lane he turns and looks right at me. At this point I still couldnt really tell what he was, other than maybe a decent rack buck. In the middle of trying to stay out of sight and grab my rifle and turn around he made a few more steeps towards the other side of my lane and put his head down behind some bushes to graze on the wheat. This cost him his life. Cause if I would have been able to see that rack through my scope when I put the crosshair on him I would have surely blew the shot. Luckily for me he stood there perfectly broad side with his head hid conveniently away. Boom right in the boiler room. When the buck started running away all I could see was antler on both sides of his head and over his back. As he was running off I also noticed his tail was tucked. A good sign I thought. I jumped out of my ten foot box stand and ran over to where I thought I hit him. No blood. Lots of panic now. Any way I ran down to the end of my lane and into the woods the way he went and there he lay not 30 yards into the woods. I know I am the luckiest man alive. But dang it feels good. I killed him in Houston County, near Perry, GA. I shot him with my .250AI and a 100NBT. He is a 10 point about 181/2 wide and weighed 215. This is the first deer I have killed with this gun since I built it before last hunting season. I would have to say I broke her in right. Shawn | ||
