I've been seeing them for about a month now, so I don't know how reliable they are. But either way, Spring is actually pretty close and its time to do some scouting, shed hunting, and turkey hunting!

Spring peepers are just starting and I saw some Sandhill Cranes heading north. Been seeing Robins and Red Winged Blackbirds for a couple weeks. Even took my motorcycle for a spin yesterday. Of course I had my snowmobile gear on. There is light at the ed of the tunnel. Jeff In the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king.

Robins? Red Winged Blackbirds? Spring Peepers? What the hell are those???? I must be living a lot closer to Pioneeroutfitters than the rest of you. We had over 20 inches of new snow a week ago and most of it is still here. Lots and lots of snow fleas though. Jim Please be an ethical PD hunter, always practice shoot and release!! Here in my corner of Michigan I've been seeing large flocks of blue birds for about two weeks now. The red wing blackbird males are here and setting up territories. Along with the male boat tailed grackles. I've seen leopard frogs, heard peepers and leopards already but it has been an unusually mild winter here. A big bull leopard frog hopped across my lawn a day or two ago at sundown on the way to the swamp down yonder. He seemed to have one thing on his mind. Lots of robins already, seen some garter snakes too. My daffodils are about 4 inches out of the ground and crocus are in bloom. There is no snow here right at the moment. Very mild but wet so far. My laying hens are going full bore, lots of farm fresh eggs here! They are deeeelicious. Saw a pile of whitetail does crossing the driveway when I was trying to plow gravel on Saturday. Killed a female coyote at the end of Feb in heat. Spring is HERE. ~Ann

Vapodog: The Lord must favor Wisconsin over NY. I'm in the most southern part of my state and haven't seen a robin yet!. (I feel Spring has arrived when I see robins and the forsythia in bloom. {We had a wind chill factor of 21 degrees this morning)

Spring?? Wow, robins? Let's see it's 22 degrees at about 6PM here. It isn't snowing but the wind is coming up (drys the snow up and blows it to SD) I did see some geese, but they were headed back south... I'm just glad we didn't put the 85K BTU propane heater away at work, had to thaw my hands out 6 time today. Don't think I'll pack the wool long johns away just yet... But in less than a month the gophers will be out in force and the Park County Montana right of spring (the Ringling Gopher Derby)will be here before you know it!

Clem: I laughed out loud about your remark "It's a dry heat". Many years ago I was in New Mexico and was appalled at the heat. (I remember standing on a highway pavement talking to a New Mexico patrol officer and trying to persuade him to let me go (he had some misguided idea that I was speeding) and I began to feel the heat coming through leather soles. That was my first introduction to the heat of the Southwest. I heard that expression so often later that it was a "dry heat". I wound up saying that a "dry heat" can also bake you alive!"

Well it was a lovely FALL day down here in Aus. Nice that is finally cooling down some. Robin down under; I usually live in Alberta where spring is still a long way off.
