Want to make a guided black bear rifle hunt in 2014. Prefer driving distance from Louisiana. Jeff jawheeler@bellsouth.net

What type of hunt? Bait, hounds or spot and stalk. I hunted in April with Shepp Ranch in Idaho on a spot and stalk hunt and had a great time.

Thanks to everyone who has emailed and PM'd but I was thinking a little more south like Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia or other southern states than allow nonresident bear hunts.

You should look at eastern north carolina. The largest black bear in the world are shot here. There is an unconfirmed over 900lb shot with hounds in Hyde County this year. I know of several over 600 shot by dog hunters this year. I shot a 420 out of a tree stand with the boar coming out of a duck impoundment. Our bears only lay down for 2 weeks so they don't really hibernate. So they grow year round as opposed to the north where they grow for 7 or 8 months and shrink for 4 or 5. They also eat corn and soybeans in the fields. so they get huge.
