Reloader66Re: New antelope rifle for fall Wyoming hunt .........
25-06 shooting the 115 grain Nosler will make the finest antelope rifle at any range you care to harvest one of those pasture poodles. Flat shooting, plenty of retained energy at longer ranges, with mild recoil. The 25-06 with the 115 grain bullet is the optimem cartridge for antelope size game.

bbruceJust my two cents 7mm-08 in remington model 7 or 700 or ruger simular caliber.

whens there lead in the air theres hope!!!!
Ditto on the 7-08. My Rem 700 works just fine, very accurate, very good in the wind, not too harsh on the meat, but @ 200yrds will still bust through every bone on a pronghorn's front end and keep going out the other side. Some say not flat enough, but that is unrealistic. If you are shooting at a range that requires holdover with any legitamate antelope rifle you are holding over for almost all of them. The extra range that you get with flatter shooting rifles comes with a tradeoff of more meat destruction and most likely more recoil which may contribute to less accuracy.
Deke.

rickt300I have a 223 and have used this cartridge along with the 22-250 on deer here in Texas with good results. As for a general purpose antelope cartridge I will take something that has more energy at the longer ranges, mine is a 24 inch barreled 270 with a 3x9 power Nikon. 130 grain Hornady flat base spire points pushed by a top load of H4831. If there is a better antelope cartridge it's not a whole lot better.

Painted HorseMy previous experience has been with Browning BBR in 25-06 shooting 120g Nosler solid base. But I'm becoming much more attached to my new 270WSM. It doesn't kill them any faster, but does have a little flatter trajectory and more retained energy out at distances.

rickt300The truth is that the wind pretty much keeps my effective range to 350 yards with any rifle and a few extra fps from any medium bore magnum isn't going to change that.
