Luther Montana Aug 4th 2023.

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.co...er-break-in/3618777/

A Montana couple got a late-night wakeup call from a barking dog alerting them that a black bear had broken into their living room before the man shot and killed the animal with a handgun.

The confrontation with the large bruin happened in the rural community of Luther at the base of the rugged Beartooth Mountains, where Thomas Bolkcom and fiance Seeley Oblander live with their two dogs.

After staying up late the night before — the couple was scheduled to fly that morning to Arizona for their bachelor and bachelorette parties — they awakened about 3 a.m. to their dog Maizey barking furiously upstairs from the house's main floor, Oblander said.

Animal or human blood if there is any amount easier just to replace it.

I have a fairly new next door neighbor that did the same thing 3 years ago.

Shot him, made sure it was dead, then called the warden. They sent a crew to move it out.
Tore hell out of his kitchen.

They come in houses all the time here in NC. They will open the doors to tractors and bulldozers and go in and eat the seats. They are as destructive as baboons. We had one roll over a 500 gallon diesel tank just to roll around in the fuel and chew up the rubber hoses. They come up on deck regularly.

My deck bear. Replaced the deck with Trex (had to redwood was shot) and eliminated the stairs. Problem solved. He still eats my apples which is fine.

Round bales left in the fields are wonderful bear toys. Tear the wrapping off, push them around and unroll them.

The dog needed surgery. The cost was about $4,000. The vet did it for no charge .

My next door neighbor is taking care of the dog. The last I heard the gentleman was still hospitalized with a brain bleed.

Thanks for the up date.

4000 dollars to fix for the dog.

Tens of thousands of dollars for the person.

Being attack by a bear equals great bodily harm.

One can use deadly force against a attacker who is going trying to inflict great bodily harm.

Bro related the following story, from a local Native reserve. They won't kill bears because they believe it could be one of their reincarnated ancestors and they might be cursed. A Black bear, very common in that neck of the woods, wonder why ? Big Grin broke into a house and had the entire substantial family trapped in a bed room. Frantic call were made for someone to come and deal with the problem, but no one would because of the stigma that would be attached to them for killing grandpa or uncle, the last guy doing so was still an outcast. Solution being, the local fish cops, an hour away, had to come and do the deed.

Betting the bear attacked the dog and the man got in the way, that's what usually happens. Bears and dogs in the same place are trouble waiting to happen, especially off leash.

Bears should be fearful of a dog man combination. They were in most places for most of mans history.

In areas where bears are hunted with hounds bears are very respectful around dogs.

In areas where bears are not hunted they are embolden to be disrespectful.

My neighbor still has the dog.

The guy who was involved is still in the hospital. By my count that is 3 weeks. He is apparently being transferred to a specialized unit for brain injuries.

Finally, and perhaps most aggravating is the reaction to this. FWC put out some traps. Many people started raising holy hell about the traps. FWC removed the traps.
