This is my Montana (near Lewistown) mule deer taken on Sat Nov 30th. He is a 23 inch 3x4. About a 250 yd shot with my custom Remington 700 in 8.59 Galaxy (Lazzeroni Short Action .338)

I was on a quick elk/deer combo hunt but all the snow had melted and the elk were at about 10,000 feet so we moved to an area outside of Lewistown and concentrated on deer.

I was guided by Keith Atcheson who posts here on AR. This area was real good this year. Keith was 20 for 20 on Mulies ranging from 20-26 inches. The Lewistown area is a special permit area for elk so I couldn't hunt elk but could see a fair number way up on the ridges. This area produces nice bulls if you can draw a permit. Keith took a 360 class bull himself this year from the area we hunted deer.

This was my first mulie so I was pretty excited. I think next year I may hunt with Keith again around Glendive it is a pretty remote rugged area but you have a shot at 28-30 inch deer if you can handle the walking and the terrain.

Anyway just wanted to share.

Nice buck Mike. I hunted deer and antelope with Keith near Jordon a few years back. Had a great time and killed a couple nice bucks. Keith is a lot of fun to hunt with.

Thanks Chris...I see you are in the "City". You in the City proper or just use it as a landmark.

Mike,

Nice buck guy! Glad you had a safe, productive hunt. I hear K.A. is a hoot to hunt with and puts the "H" back into hunting.

Yeah Keith is a blast to hunt with. The guy has eyes that are unbelievable. He stops looks up on the hill and says...yeah I think there some deer near the timber. I am sayin Where? Where?...he says up there about a mile away...thats before he pics up his binos.

Thought I was hunting with a witch or somethin. Got to spend a few hours talkin with his Dad. That was great...what a treat.
