Subject: New Big Game License "Super Tags"

Would you please pass this along to anyone you know who hunts in Montana? Thanks.

FWP IS SEEKING PUBLIC COMMENT ON A NEW BIG GAME LICENSE LOTTERY
FWP is seeking public comment on proposed rules to guide a new hunting license lottery that would enable hunters to buy chances to draw a license for one species-deer, elk, moose, mountain sheep or mountain goat license.

The lottery for the five "super tags" was authorized by the 2005 Montana Legislature as a way to help fund the state's hunting access enhancement program (Block Management) and wildlife law enforcement.

Under the proposed rules, hunters would be able to purchase an unlimited number of $5 chances to draw any one of the new tags. A hunter successful in the lottery would receive a license good statewide for that species during the regular hunting season.

All chances on the licenses would be sold electronically through the automated licensing system at FWP license provider's, FWP regional offices, or over the Internet.

Details on the new rules will be available on the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov under Public Notices. The public is invited to comment during a meeting Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at the FWP headquarters building at 1420 East Sixth Ave, Helena.

Comments may also be made through Jan. 19 in writing to: Hank Worsech, FWP, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT, 59620-0701; or by telephone to: 444-2663; fax: 444-3707; or by email to: hworsech@mt.gov.

MT Lassiter: It appears - as I predicted, that the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department is in a "money crunch"! The FWP Department is a top heavy, bloated and duplitious agency!
Having said that the line officers and middle management are doing a pretty fair job. Most of our Game Herds are doing well to okay!
The Parks part of the agency SHOULD NEVER have been included into this agency here a few years back! More greens = more wasted money!
One reason the FWP people are "scrounging" for money is because of lost revenue induced by fewer Elk tags being sold in Wolf ravaged areas!
For instance the area just north of Gardiner, Montana used to sell 1,195 special Elk tags right up until recently! The Wolves are VERY overpopulated in this area! Coincidence? Last year the special tags in this Wolf ravaged area were reduced to less than 100!
Vois'la - now appears this $5.00 a chance (and unlimited chances!) scheme to raise money???
Again the greenies and the Parks people have NO business in the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks!
Expect to see more "schemes" and fee hikes in the future!
Shame this flagrant money scamming while certain game herds suffer!
Shame!
Hold into the wind

VG until they fix the "Wolf Problem" The hunting is going to be only fair and they are going to suffer a revenue problem that affects more than just the game department. They are having the same problem in Idaho. Been there seen it and am not going back until they fix it.
