Personal oppinions! 4' side walls, easier to heat if it is real cold, 10x12 works good for two guys, make sure you get a sod cloth all the way around the bottom, and a storm flap in the door! Unless you can get a zipper. But if they dry up tight the zipper can be a pain to work or if it gets iced up. I do November hunts in mine and love it. I go alone lots of times and it is very comfortable with a home made wood stove.
I like the Military Artic Tents. Once you aclimate to the cold you can heat one with a lantern pretty well. Just make sure you have one with the liner. The liner makes all the difference in the world when it gets cold. Kudu56 is right, make sure the zipper is lubed. God Bless and Merry Christmas, Louis

so far I'm thinking of an 12' x 14' 14.9 0z non treated canvas, with sod cloth, zipper door, 5" stove pipe jack & flap, zipper ridge pole openings, HD vinyl snap in floor, rear window with screen and zipper flap. then a hunter model cylinder stove package or Alaskan stove package

Sounds good so far, but I'd sure recommend treated. The zippered ridge pole openings are tits and a rear screened window really helps to ventalate. As Kudu56 said, make sure your sidewalls are 5' and you get a storm flap to cover up your zipper. I really like the ones with snap closures instead ot ties. You should also order a custom rainfly to cover the tent and go around your stove jack.

I use a 12x14 5 foot side walls for two people. When more than two people I put up two that size or larger. One sleeping tent and one as a cook tent. I really like the inside self standing frame. I can set them up by myself Do Not scrimp on the stove size. Bigger is better if you have the room. I like... www.Reliabletent.com

I use a wood stove but also have a $50 propane stove, like the ones you used to have when you were a kid, like in a bathroom. You can pick one up at a second hand store some times, then get a 100# bottle and you can stay warm all night with not stoking or wood cutting!
going with 4' walls and storm flap ... will be getting a rain fly by next fall. I also have 2 propane heaters 1 with and 1 without vent pipe. can i treat the canvas myself with canvac ? Reliable doesn't offer treated in the 14.9 oz tents ....
(I'm starting to think the 10.1 oz double fill marine canvas will be better choice)

i havent seen the poles discussed. the internal set up is worth the price it costs. hand made ones ive tried did not work well. i assume that this is the direction youve taken on the poles.

Go to davistent.com. There is a lot of great info on material choices. After that go ahead and place your order, because they make great tents. Reliable tents are great too.
Another vote here for Davis Tent out of Colorado...I bought my first canvas tent from Davis 3 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. Great workmanship!
I put a lot of energry into researching various tents (canvas) when I bought mine and Davis always can highly recommended. I called Davis Tent & Awing Company a couple of different times with questions about their tents and each time the owner answered and really helped me out with good information. He even went so far as telling me when to 'save my money' by not going with certain options, and when not to buy an accessory(s) because there were better accesories that (he did not sell) would suit my needs better. I was thoroughly impressed...they were good folks that make a great product.
Good luck to you, and I know you'll enjoy hunting/camping out of a canvas tent - it's the best IMO!

+1 for Montana Canvas. There customer service is A+. Also, be careful with propane heat, as it introduces alot of humidity in the tent. Internal frame is the way to go if your by yourself or two people. Alot easier to set up.

After looking at your address, if you go to Montana Canvas in Belgrade, they usually have some tents that were used for show's/ display's, at some pretty good prices and same warantee as new. I used to live in red lodge and absarokee.
