I'm a friend of Georges, visiting him, and from "out east" up in Maryland. I don't know of anything interesting or important between Charlotte and Greenville. BUT if you are going to be in the area a few days, might want to over (east) to Wilmington NC, and visit the town Robert Ruark grew up in. The house he spent a lot of time in, with his grandparents is right there, and only a few blocks from the Fear River, etc. And the USS NC battleship is there too, or in the area. You could also go a bit N & W to Asheville and visit the Biltmore estate. This is a "summer" home, built by one of the Vanderbilts in the 1890s. Takes all day to see if (Right. It is place to be seen. Other than that I'm not sure of what's in the area. Do a search for Biltmore to give you and idea of what it is. This is Tysue. Btw, I was on the south island of NZ last year. Have a friend on the N. Island, gunsmith Mitchel Maxberry. If you don't know him, you need to meet him. Long Range shooter.

Howdy Muzza: Hell of a deal, letting someone else use my 'puter and it comes out as if I wrote it. Talk about putting words in someone's mouth huh?

The ONLY time I've been in that area, I flew down from NJ. Can't say I even saw much that night. Bussed from Charleston to Gainesville Fla for a week, then on down to Miami.

Hope you have a great visit while in the area. Seems like maybe Ian/Helen (kiwi shooter) may have visited the area too. Might be worth a note to him about it.

Good luck and stay safe,
George

If American Revolutionary War history interests you then a trip to Kings Mountain National Military Park might be in order. You can walk the battlefield via a scenic and informative trail.

"A one and a half mile paved trail leads from the visitors' center around the base of the mountain along the Patriot lines and ascends to the crest where the Loyalists were positioned. The trail passes several monuments, large and small, the earliest dating from 1815, as well as Patrick Ferguson's grave, giving a good sense of the battleground."

quote:
This is a place of inspiring memories. Here less than a thousand men, inspired by the urge of freedom, defeated a superior force entrenched in this strategic position. This small band of Patriots turned back a dangerous invasion well designed to separate and dismember the united Colonies. It was a little army and a little battle, but it was of mighty portent. History has done scant justice to its significance, which rightly should place it beside Lexington, Bunker Hill, Trenton and Yorktown.

It makes for a very nice morning or afternoon visit.

I drove around Wilmington & Raleigh 10+ years ago. Stayed a few days and shot and hunted with friends from here on AR. I did not do any sight seeing but I was gifted a book by Ruark!
