Can anyone tell me which sheep constitute a Grand Slam? I’m a total novice concerning sheep.

Do we have any Grand Slam members on AR? I think I saw Mr. Boddington posting, which is cool. Anyone else?

Thanks for any help regarding the ongoing education.

Bighorn Sheep
Desert Sheep
Dall Sheep
Stone Sheep
These are the classic "slam" Sheep.
You can also expand on the list by adding Fannin and California rams to the slam there may be other subspecies.
The Bighorn and Deserts are considered "bighorned" Sheep while the Dall and Stone are "thinhorned" Sheep.

I personnaly am no where close to a "Slam" however I have taken a great Bighorn and a really nice Goat both in Colorado. If I can ever draw a Desert tag then I know I'll be on my way to the "Slam" but the Desert is an obstacle unless you are well monied enough to pony up, which I'm not I'm just a working guy with trophy hunter tastes and a huge drive.

They may be substituted by Fanin bing called a Stone, and the California bighorn being called a Rocky Mountain bighorn. When you look at the subspiecues, it appears that there are 4 on this continent, but with further genetic testing some folks have talked of broadening the pool. Kinda like they did with caribou a few years ago.

SCI wants them to do it so people can add another "number" to their trophy list. But of course SCI can add subspeicies on their own for their scoring purposes anyway. It would suit me just fine if everyone leaves it as-is with 4 being the magic number.

BTW-I am a one quarter slammer!

There is something special about sheep to a lot of people. It is a lot like turkey hunting in that respect. Either you are totally consumed with it, or would not walk across the street to shoot a world record. I get tremendous enjoyment just from watching sheep in the spotting scope and binoculars. To me, there is nothing liek waking up in a tent on top of a sheep mountain.
