Hey Tim,

Typically, a resident of Iowa can purchase two any sex tags - one archery, and one gun (for either shotgun or muzzleloader, but not both). So the simple answer is two.

However, during shotgun season, "party hunting" is legal and antlerless tags are available over the counter in many areas, which gives a guy another opportunity to kill a buck if his partner(s) with the buck tags are amenable.

Congrats on the IA tag (and your exceedingly good luck on all of them) and I hope you have a safe and successful hunt here. What zone did you draw?

Best,
Jeff

I honestly don't know the zone. It is west. I am hunting with Judd Cooney, and he did the app for me. I did have a point, but out of 12 people I know that put in for the hunt with Judd, only 3 of us drew. He hasn't had anyone not draw in the past 3-4 years, so this was a real shocker.

Tim Herald: My archery and Rifle Hunting "dance Cards" are pretty full so far.
If I do not receive any special tags I have these Hunts on tap so far.

Fall Bear - Montana
Antelope - Montana
Archery Deer - Montana
Archery Elk - Montana
Fall Turkey - Montana
Rifle Deer - Montana
Rifle Elk - Montana
Cougar - Montana
Bobcat - Montana
Wolverine - Montana

In the past I usually Hunted three states each year - but with the price of non-resident tags, travel and the assorted "non-direct Hunting costs" I would rather just suffer along Hunting here in Big Sky Country! And save my moolah for taxidermy work and some more GUNS.
Best of luck to everyone Hunting this fall/winter!

I'm actually seeing AR work. Saw a real nice 10 point behind my sister's the other evening (watched him with binos for about 10 minutes. A definite 10 already with still a bit of time to grow on length). Looked like he should be in the 150's, maybe 160's when the season rolls around. Hard to tell now in velvet and with a little more growing to do, but he was nice. Saw 5 bucks together on my place last week, smallest was a "nice" 6 point (if there is such a thing Wink He was young and only had six, but they were on a nice rack. He'll get a chance to grow up and should be good in another year or two...), the rest were 8's and one nine. How long has it been since we've seen groups like that?

As for Booners, yeah, maybe not. But the overall quality is better than it's ever been. (No, I didn't just drink the Kool-Aid... Razzer)

I will hunt moose here with my bow first then rifle.Aug-sept
Might go on a bow caribou hunt. mid aug.
Think I'll go for black bear too this fall.

Other than that I will have to wait for the draw results. Of the course the odds for any good permits are 100-1.

Wow, you guys drew a ton of stuff. It seems like all my friends and half of my clients drew good stuff this season. This year for me my hunting schedule is:

July - Guiding for pigs in California
August - Guiding for pigs in California
Septemeber - Guiding for pigs in California
October - Guiding for pigs in California
November - Guiding for pigs in California
December - Guiding for pigs in California

Etc., etc. Like the last 18 years. Smiler

I've got a handfull of bonus points here and there but haven't drawn anything for quite a while.

Best of luck you guys,
Kyler

Glad to hear it's like that where you are. I've seen fewer bucks & fewer good bucks each year since AR became implemented. What I have been seeing is more genetic trash that's 3 or 4 or 5 years old.........20" 6-pointers that weigh 250 on the hoof........3 year class deer that are 16"-19" wide and have 3 or 4 points (total!!)......a increasing number of 1 1/2 year olds lacking brow tines........

I really am happy for you. But PA can just, plain stick it.

Then I get to help my brother in law hunt his first deer in South Dakota. Don't have a tag, so no gun for me, but get to help him set up and carry out.
