Mebbe in the sense that people from Queens are like people from Alabama. Same general lifestyle to our eyes, but not the same to them I think.

Quote: With some interest I have been reading all these threads. Boy, you guys go at it. I am originally from the Netherlands, and hence, a dreaded ALIEN. It gets worse; by implication of being Dutch, I must be an out-of-control LIBERAL!!!! I just feel compelled to put in my two cents. There is obviously no justification for Vang's behavior; it was a criminal act, and my heart goes out to all the family members that have to cope with this horrific situation. Hopefully a sufficiently intelligent jury will be picked to bring justice to its victims and their families. However.... I am not an attorney, and with my limited legal knowledge, it seems to me that it will probably not be difficult to make a case for "Innocent by Reason of Insanity" Regardless of how you feel about race and racism, it cannot be refuted that mental illness exists in all racial makeups and societies. That being said, how in the world do you guys go from condemning a senseless crime, to blaming all non-english speaking immigrants for all the ills of society? Granted, I have no love for ILLEGAL ALIENS either, as they usurp a disproportionate amount of available public funds in relation to what they add to society. There are plenty of LEGAL hispanics, blacks, asians, indians, and others, including myself, who substantially and meaningfully add to the fabric that represents America. Some of them are even liberal. Seafire, you are clearly much higher educated than I am, but I was always under the impression that education made someone more tolerable of other views and cultures. Is it really so hard to be tolerant? It is too hard to be called a conservative in this country. I am not religious, so that leaves me to the left of the right wing conservatives. I am for abortion, because no one in this country is going to take care of an additional 150,000 unwanted, mostly non-white children annually, move me more to the left. I am a woman and believe in equality, move me more to the left. I believe cannabis should be legal, because alcohol is. I am also an avid hunter, who refuses to shoot deer with less than six points. That pushes me more to the left, because I am an opinionated (female) hunter. I actually do 'shoot' them, with a camera. I detest drunk drivers, and worse, drunk hunters! How liberal can you get! I believe in the second amendment. Both my daughters received their first 22 cal. rifles on their 12th birthday; they also ride dirtbikes, speedskate and ski (girls don't do all these things, hence, to the left we go. I have a solid, 20-year marriage, and hold frequent, friendly discussions with my hubby (I talk back, therefore.) I reload, and enjoy the discipline of relaxation of distance shooting. I can't be anything but a LIBERAL, but am I really that much different than you???? PS.. It drives me nuts: the word is ETIQUETTE

Seafire, Now that we understand that all REDNECKS are not REPUBLICANS, please note that all LIBERALS are not FOOLS either. Though I must point out that the concept of a liberal redneck is something of an oxymoron. By now, it must also be clear by everyone reading this thread that brevity is not our strongpoint. It is interesting, however, that your father was an officer in the Air Force. My father was a warrant officer in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, so I too grew up as a military brat. I served three years in the Royal Netherlands Air Force as well, as an enlisted, in the late 70s. Its amazing what a small world this can be, and how much we have in common! Also, you definately are a better person than I am.... I only managed to climb the stairs at the Eiffel tower to the second floor (the floor where the elevator makes its first stop). One of my pet peeves, as a card-carrying member of the ACLU (as well as the NRA and the NHRA) are blanket statements, regardless of whom gets victimized. ALL women are not bad drivers... ALL blondes are not dumb, ALL rednecks are not republican??? hmmm. There is really nothing in your personality, they way you presented yourself, that would indicate that, truly, in your heart, you believe your statement that 'all liberals are fools'. Much closer to the truth is that you are probably more liberal than you will admit, and I am more conservative than I will give myself credit for. By the way, I carry the name 'pest' as a badge of honor. At my job, I am known as the Pest from Surgery. As administrative manager of Surgery and Trauma Services of a large, Level I trauma center, I deal with administrative issues that affect patient care on a daily basis. When a problem arises, I don't want to hear that 'this is the way we have been doing it for years' I want a concrete, acceptable solution, even if I have to break every existing rule and policy that has been written. Since my arrival at this hospital, some 10 years ago, many rules have been 'adjusted' to accommodate realistic situations. Kicking up dust is my specialty... It is a byproduct of being a liberal. Change is inherently a good thing, but most people are afraid of change, sometimes they are called conservatives . Going back into history, many people with fresh ideas were considered eccentric or crazy and were shunned, hence, they fell outside of the norms of society. Look at the suffrage movement in the early 1900s. These women were not welcome additions to a community. As soon as the concept of women suffrage became law and slowly became accepted, women wanting to vote were no longer shunned. This would not have come about without the efforts of, heavens forbid, LIBERALS. There are of course many other examples of the benefits of LIBERALISM or change, in history. I am not saying that there is no space in this world for conservatives. Variety is the spice of life, and as long as there are committed conservatives, such as you, and committed liberals, such as myself, healthy debates are possible. By the way, I have enjoyed our exchange, and am happy that these kind of exchanges are still fashionable. I will continue to enjoy your comments as well as this site, though I am sure that people are tired of our 'personal' exchange by now. Regards, Marianne

seafire/B17G, Don't blame me because YOU cannot accept the truth about yourself, you racist whiny. Let me explain something to your simpleton arse. This guys story is VERY plausible/feasible because of IGNORANT RACISTS comments made by INDIVIDUAL like you! ALL HE HAS TO DO TO GET OFF IS PROVE REASONABLE DOUBT, a chore made EXPONENTIALLY EASIER when ANYONE reads the kinda crap you and others like you say/post! Now your argument about NO HABLO, big deal. Again don't blame me for the laziness or otherwise ineffectual enforcement of laws by law enforcement. This is a recurring issue that needs to be addressed by the government and it law enforcement professionals! I can tell you have never owned much huntable private property. I cannot count on my fingers and toes the number of times we have had to remove tresspassers from our land, almost without exception these tresspassers were WHITE many generation old Americans. They didn't "no hablo" either, they just lied to our face and stated that hey had the land owners permission. Strange NONE OF US REMEMBERED GIVING THESE CLOWNS PERMISSION! We have called the cops, but that only seems to lead to more trouble! We have had tractors shot, farm animals shot, even the house shot!! Got some news for you! Human trash comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds!! Now if this Vang is guilty, and I believe he f_king is, then he should die! Unfortunately, the pinko commy pussy boy state of Wisconsin doesn't have to balls to kill SCUM, they insist any stealing money from citizens to house, clothe, and feed these vermin until they die of old age!! You, GSP7, and DigitalDan, can all ignore me to the end of time, and I sincerely hope you do. This entire subject is getting too damned political for me. ASS_CLOWN PS - I am about as ANTI-LIBERAL as a human being can get!

Marianne, I am sure we are lot more alike that we know. We both are a product of our respective environments. But I see both of us have an underlying concept of practicality and efficiency. I you are a card carrying member of the ACLU, you might appreciate this also. In college, I studied Law with the Idea of wanting to work for the ACLU and right the wrong of every poor schmuck who got screwed over in life. When It came time to go to Law School, well I got discouraged and kinda let it all go. The ACLU sure had started to loose focus on what its aims were in the 1960s etc. Like you, it seems, my second choice was involvement in Medicine. I have great respect for the work you do, as I have enough experience to relate to the difficulty of the job that you do, but seem to be highly on top of. Once again if it is efficient and better, I don't hang onto the old status quo. Conservatism doesn't have to mean status quo. This country use to be a lot more realistic and efficient. Don't let my quotation at the bottom of my signature bother you. It is more of a joke that anything else. I have a strong sense of humor. One of my more favorite bumper stickers was " When God created Men, she was only Kidding". All liberals are fools are in the same vein. And if those who might be tired of reading our little back and forths here, well no one is holding a loaded gun to their head to read it. I am sure more people ignore my posts than read them anyway. I am sure you watch or at least are aware of Hannity and Combs on Fox. I watch it, but I am sure you figure my favorite is Sean Hannity. Actually it is Allan Coombs. What he says is more from the heart. It is not his words but his convictions that I admire. I admire people who stand up for what they believe in, regardless if it agrees with my convictions or not. I only have problems when they start to act their agenda is more important, because they are a "liberal' and I must be wrong because I don't consider myself one. That is what Sean Hannity does when he talks to a Liberal person, is pushes his ideas over on them while not respecting the other persons prospective. I don't have a lot of respect for him even when he is touting what I believe. Alan Coombs does his message with conviction and style. Sean Hannity is too full of himself and thinks that people who don't think like him have no importance. He delutes his message dramatically in my book. Actually I look at Sean Hannity as a Conservative with the usual attitudes a "liberal" has, and Alan Coombs as a Liberal who has the attitudes of a 'conservative' in his delivery of them. Probably doesn't make sense to anyone but me, but hey, what does seafire know??? YOU have good points Marianne, so don't be silent! Sufferage for women is legal in all 50 states now, so SPEAK UP GIRL!!!! cheers and good shooting seafire

To put the following in the proper context you need to know that I spent 30yrs in Law Enforcement. I wonder how many times Vang had contact with Law Enforcement officers and was let go or treated leniently because he was a "minority" and that was the politicaly correct or racialy sensitive thing to do. Policy is not made by the men in the field but by elected or appointed bureaucrats who are incompetent to do the work of thier subordinates. This type of exposure would give him the impression that he could get away with almost anything.

Seafire, Yep, I watch Hannity and Coombs, just to have fodder to illustrate how ignorant some people can be. Hannity is so egocentric, it is nauseating. I also watch Bill O'Reilly with his 'pithy' comments. He is almost as annoying, but every very once in a while he makes a good point. I would not buy his book, though. My favorite commentator by far is Chris Matthews!!!! Have no fear, many have tried, but none have been able to 'shut me up'. I was never offended by your quote--it takes a lot to really offend me--I was just curious how you derived at such a conclusion. Anyone who makes blanket statements, in my opinion, leaves oneself open to unsolicited commentary and criticism. I just could't let the opportunity pass. In the end, it was enlightening and stimulating! Well, back to work for now!... Why, by the way, would it take 10 weeks to have a barrel put on an action?? regards, Marianne
