Anyone been? I think it's amazing that it could be so much, I know there are some big bucks there, but will they be that much better than private land in Utah or Mexico?

That depends. The better mule deer hunts in Utah go for $12,000-23,000. The Jic produces some great deer, but I don't think any deer hunt is any worth over $5,000. All free chase deer hunts have the x factor of not shooting the average size. Remember, to get an average of 180, a unit MUST be producing some 200"ers and some 160"ers.

Great animals but........... I would not give $12000 for all the mule deer in North America. Absolute Robbery!! Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

30378, Yes but would you pay that for a South Texas B&C King Ranch whitetail? The only thing big in Texas is pride!

I'll go down there, but it won't happen until after I retire!

Had a friend, Louis Castillo hunted there about 19 years ago with Larry Panzy as a guide. Killed a 220 non-typical the first morning and the guide wanted to shoot him! Said he shot way too soon. Nice buck, and after doing the today's dollars sort of fiscal adjuctment... about the same dollars. Yep Crazy! Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! Not even for a 200+" south Texas Whitetail. I have killed way too many deer in North America for a lot less. $12000 is just a lot of money for a deer in my opinion. I could not help but think the meat would taste a little brackish like gold. Bout the only thing I would give that kind of money for would be an Alaskan Grizz or Brown Bear. A once in a life time thing for me. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

The only reason they charge that kind of money is because there are fools that will pay it. 12k hunts are for people with More money than Brains.

Not worth it to me, especially when you can go to Africa for that. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

I hunted there back in the early 70's when points ment very little and 30" MD where plentfull in many state with over the counter tags, back then the MD hunt was cheap the ELK was more then I could afford. I agree with others that have posted there is NO DEER IN NA WORTH $12,000. GET RIDE OF THEM F##### BOOKS AND THE PRICE WILL COME DOWN BUT THE MORE MONEY THEN BRAINS GROUP WILL PAY ANYTHING TO SEE THERE NAME IN PRINT.

I agree 100 percent. I have no problem with an animal going into a book. But, the hunter's name should not be there. The "book" is supposed to honor the animal, not the person who killed it. Interesting conversation I once had when I first moved to Arizona about 27 years ago. I'd heard about the great elk hunts on the White Mountain Apache Reservation. When I called to inquire about a hunt, I was told that it was $7,500 for a hunt for a bull elk. When I asked why the price was so high, I was told that they were not intersted in me taking a hunt. They wanted the rich German industrialists and Arab oil sheiks. His words. I have hunted Area 1 in AZ a few times and as it's next to the "Res", I've seen some damn nice elk there. The bad news is once the shooting starts, the elk all head for the "Res" where the hunting pressure is a lot less. maybe it is time to close the "record books" permanently. Paul B.

Everytime I see these "reservation hunts" discussed it takes me back to our horrible treatment of our Native Indians. Yep we put them out on this terrible (beautiful, pristine) land that would grow nothing (book elk, deer, bear, sheep) and have no opportunity for advancement(casinos, hotels). Yeah buddy we really treated them terribly, now don't go and throw me in that briar patch!

The guy that pays $12k for a deer hunt is the same guy that spends $30k for a Marco Polo Hunt, $30k for a Polar Bear, and upwards of $100k for a full bag lion safari in Africa. And believe me, he didn't get that kind of disposable cash by being a fool. Brian

Big money is ruining hunting for most of us all over the world. Soon everything will be "the King's deer".

I think you missed the point, it has nothing to do with how deep a persons pockets are. I could fart a 12K hunt but I will never do so. I will not support the corruption of the sport.

Paul B I have hunted on San Carlos Res. a number of times (birds)my last trip there several years ago was just before Elk openned I saw 3 bulls up at Mud Lake area all in the 400+ catorgy while watching them we had a young indian drive up on us, he worked for a guide and they where fallowing these Elk day and night they had a client coming in that weekend to hunt he said the tag cost him $53K + $10,000 for the hunt. JoeCool i'm with you. My avitar shows a buck I shot in Utah years ago it scored 207 (only because I let a friend score it)you won't find it in any book as long as i'm alive and I have one bigger.

By that time that hunt will cost twice that. As long as there are greedy people with money and a book to prove how big your dick is, there will be folks willing to pay these amounts to get their name in print. MG

If I wanted really big deer I would contact Billy Cole on the Flag ranch. Contact me, Billy or Jeff Wemmer and we can fix you up. $6000. If you don't have the funds for a guided hunt then put in for a draw hunt in Idahos unit 55, if your tough and know how to hunt, it'll will net you a big buck with a little luck tossed in. A number of 200 plus bucks have come out of that country and its not expensive. no guide required. What happened to this hunt? "I have some trophy Mule Deer and we kill two or three each year in the 208 to 235 B&C class, spreads of 40 plus inches, which is pretty good because we only take about 7 hunters....In Texas/NM on 300,000 acres of desert near Jal NM and Kermit, Texas...." Regardless, good to see you back. It was boring around here without you. If your still wanting to try and whip my ass I've moved, you'll need to come to Colorado but my offer still stands to pick you up and drop you off at the airport. It will be a very short trip for you... Drummond PS, I would love to hear more about the time you stiff armed the Hippo Heisman Style and outran it to safety. Your tall tales are the stuff "legends" are made of. Also, in case you missed it, good to have you back
