anyone else get the "fever" in the spring?

Steve LefforgeHey Ravenr
I hope those antler sheds are from past years?
Because looking in the back ground I thought you might have more snow up in you're neck of the woods this year. Are the Bighorn Sheep still down low, I was hoping to run up there next weekend and take some pictures? Nice sheds by the way and thanks for the pictures.

Josh K.Nice pile of sheds. Do you sell them? make any money selling them?
23 March 2008, 20:48
kudu56Nice sheds. Two of my sons went in on horse back Wed. to see what they could find. I think they got snowed on though.

I do. I have picked up a few in the past week.
I do look forward to this time of year. They are like little nuggets of gold for me! I do not sell them, I keep them.
That is a nice "catch" you have there.

AtkinsonI have a garage full of elk horns, wife says no more enough is enough!!
My other sport is team roping steers with my grandson and its my number one sport, hunting is second these days, many years ago I turned hunting from a hobby to a business, maybe a bad move, not sure!

Can't post pictures of my roping, but probably not much intereste along those lines on this thread!

Idaho RonI am not accusing any of your guys so don't get me wrong. But There has been a lot of guys chasing elk and deer on winter range using dogs, snow mobiles, atv's, horses, trucks. They try to hit the horns with baseball bats and clubs. When I hear about some of the stuff that bad shed hunters do it makes me sick. I am sure most guys don't do that but the ones that do are giving the rest a black eye. At some point I think they need to make a shed hunting season to let the animals get through the winter.

Same here in Wy. The elk in the above photos had been pushed by horse back shed hunters. THe photos are from about 600 yds. We watched them push the elk from lower elevation to the top of the peaks and they went over the top. Look at their mouths.
Yes a season, like April 15th.

First of all, I sahre your concerns regarding animals on the wintering ground and the undue pressure put on them by a overeager shed hunters.
That being said, I know ravenr well and I guarantee he does it the right way. Dude is a class act and spends a lot of hours in the outdoors. I learned a lot from him when we used to guide together.
As for shed seasons, northern UT has one and from what I understand WY has begun to follow suit. Apparently a lot of the guys that hunt them in UT started going to WY when they made a season and WY has had a lot of pressure.
In an interview on the Jim Rome Show, John Calipari said that it doesnt take but a miniscule amount of feces to ruin a 5 gallon tub of ice cream. He was talking about how one player with no morals or values can ruin a team. Same holds true for shed hunters

drum, the photo is from last year, was sitting around chaffing to get out these last couple weekends but we are covered up in snow and more hitting the ground as we speak.it was a great run, picked up 13 brown elk, a set of 175ish mule deer and a moose paddle in 1 day.
