It certainly can happen. Over the years I have seen exceptional weather changes in a short period of time. Thanks! DRSS NRA Life Member VDD-GNA

didn't read the link but I'd bet this is about the Veterans day storm that come up in the middle of a bluebird day and just dumped snow from minute one like they had boxes of the stuff to give away.

Great story, As a side note, I miss the green wools.the red and black shirts and suspenders. The families all hunting together over Thanksgiving holidays, may grandpa's pipe smoke and the smell of the coffe from the thermos. Now its all score, who has the best gear, commercialization and lets make a video and black guns. When I was young an old guy told me, as he was complaining about change, aches and pains and the world going to hell he said "all this just makes death when it comes Just little more palatable". Now that I'm old I know what he meant !

My Dad talked about this. Tragic for sure. One can not carry enough gear for every situation. But modern equipment can help. space blankest ect can help us prepare a bit more.

Duck hunting can certainly backfire on you. From getting stuck hip deep on a mud flat, to having an oar break while rowing a johnboat full of dekes, a pretty Carles Daly Superior Grade O/U, and a nervous 84 lb Chesapeake Bay retriever a mile through the bitter cold darkness with 40 MPH winds while being soaked from the spray off the whitecaps. Not always safe, but certainly adventurous. I sometimes wonder what sportsmen think when they realize that this is It? Do they curse their stupidity? Lament never saying goodbye to their families? I’ve always thought that I want to face my death with eyes wide open, taking in every detail, while knowing it is my last experience on this world, maybe last ever. But I am in no hurry to have that experience. RIP duck hunters. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

The Halloween blizzard of 1991 was actually a worse storm dumping more snow and dropping to colder temps, but it didn't kill nearly so many people. Probably because there were far, far fewer duck hunters and in combination, the clothing is vastly better and the vehicles even more so. I do not blame people who think that living in Minnesota is for nut jobs when I take into consideration what sometimes happens here.

Miles: My opinion why the Halloween storm did not kill was because of the difference in weather forecasting. The National Weather Service was created as a result of the 1940 storm. There was ample warning in 1991. We had plenty of time to change our daughter out of her fairy princess Halloween costume into her old dog costume but she was not happy about it.
