For those of you flying, beware...... A friend of mine was just here telling me about his trip thru the Grands Rapids MI airport. Seems he had his ammo in 20 round Midway Plastic boxes, and they confiscated everyone of them because they were not "orginal". Not only ammo problems, but they swabbed the inside of his gun case, and inside the bore of his rifle, and guess what..... they found gun powder residue, and then proceded to have a fit about that. His dad had an old beat up box of Hornady ammo, and that was just fine. His other partners even had theirs in old Remington boxes with the styrofoam inserts, and they acepted those because they were orginal. So beware, as these Security people have no clue what guns and ammo are all about. I hope all other airports are not this bad, but be careful.

Damm, we all should of known that it was a matter of time before that happened.

The next thing to worry about is..... "is it in a locked metal container"? I had a fellow in NY, who they made leave the airport, and take a cab to the nearest store , and buy a "lockable metal container". 2 hours and $50 in cab fares later he was back, and just made his plane. It just takes one agent to ruin your day.

I think one of the gun rags recently made the same recommendation that you place your handloads in an old original box just to get through.

Don't your computers have label makers. Make some label and put them on your plastic box's. Like Feds Ammo company 105 ammo lane your city. 30-06 springfeild. Don't for get KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

I thought about labling my own plastic boxes. Actually made some lables. In the end I put my 338 Hawk ammo in factory 30-06 boxes. The head stamp even matched. Two boxes of 06 at Wal-mart didn't cost much compared to the hunt. At the airport, both ways, no one even looked at or asked about the ammo. This was Novembr 2001.

Does anybody know where to get those original factory ammo boxes? American Airlines just told me I couldn't use the plastic ammo boxes I have my ammo loaded into. I've got rid of my old ammo boxes because I haven't used factory ammo for so long.

Check the trash bins at the shooting range for empty boxes. George

I'd get in touch with every gun magazine and gun-friendly "public" person (radio, TV, "hunting shows") and have them start a calling campaign to "break the back" of the policy-making idiots responsible for such ignorance... and it truly IS "ignorance." We just can't afford, none of us, to let these little things pass without making phone calls and writing letters. Plus, the "powder residue" situation... incredible. "Duh." Tell me, what would you expect to find in a GUN case? Pancake mix? Make calls, make calls, make calls. Russ

AND FOR THAT MATTER... (!!!)... ... if you buy brand new bullets, brand new powder, brand new primers, and brand new brass, and assemble it yourself, and the first !@#@$@#$@$ box it ever gets stored into for the very first time is one of the !#@$@#$@#$@# boxes above -- those "ARE" the "ORIGINAL BOXES!!!" Meanwhile, all the Arabic guys wearing surplus army fatigue shirts just breeze on through.

According to DB Bill's post here: http://www.serveroptions.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005662 The airline regulations say you can pack your ammo "in containers specific for ammuntion" inside your locked gun case. Here is the verbage from the web site: Small arms ammunitions for personal use must be securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition They also state to check with your specific airlines. This is nothing but BS, all taht you do is make your own lables on your computer, store them on a floppy, and simply print them when yopu need them. The lables covered by 2" clear postal tape wrapped all the way around the boxes sealing them closed. I've been doing this for years, and have never had anyone anyplace break a seal on one of my boxes of ammo. I will say, however these lables look like commercial lables, with My company name on them, and all pertenant information on the lable includeing WARNING that this ammo is only to be fired in firearms designed for it! I worked 31 years for American Airlines, and I can tell you there aren't ten people in most stations that know the difference between a factory box, and a galvanized bucket! If I can make the text hold when posted I will give you an Idea what my lables look like! Front: DUGABOY DESIGNS B]SPORTING AMMUNITION[/B] 450/400NE 3" 400gr. solid E-mailil DUGABOY1@aol.com Back: WARNING: use this ammunition only in firearms origenally designed for it and store properly It is hard to show these ammo boxes since I can't post pictures! But the only thing I do is be very careful when applying these lables so they look factory, and in fact they are!

Good idea. And for that matter, one could use those... "food sealers" (?)... that seal "whatever" in plastic wrap that can only be opened by tearing into it. With "factory labels" and "sealed packages," ammo couldn't get much more "factory." Still... we shouldn't have to piss around with these kind of things in the first place. Russ
