When queried about taking game by non-hunters or PETA types about hunting and killing I pretty much respond, by saying, "if god didn’t want us to eat animals, why’d he make them out of meat". I describe myself as a “short range meat hunter”. I love hunting and taking game. The venison and pork from my efforts tastes pretty darn good also. I decry the emphasis on trophies, rather than the experience of a successful hunt. My oldest son started following me down trails when he was six years old. We’ve hunted together ever since. He was thirty this year. I’ve always told him that “if it excites you and it’s legal, take the shot.” Yes he’s made some mistakes along the way, but those were tasty mistakes. Well I had the opportunity to take him to my lease this weekend. It’s bow season in Texas and no one has been hunting at our lease other than me a couple weeks ago. I figured that since there had been no hunting pressure, and I’d seen turkey, hog and deer on the game cams, he might have some luck. Me, when it comes to killin’ I’m always lucky. He took this hill country 10 point Friday morning. Fair deer, split brow tine, and a kicker on the left G3. The buck was 150 lbs live weight. I nailed 5 hogs between Friday evening and Saturday night, four of which I recovered. The brindled boar weighed 100 lbs. The black sow was 110 lbs. Perfect size for eating. The two smaller hoglets were about 30 and 50 lbs respectively. Not a bad start for the season. I had just turned the last pork hind into pulled pork sandwiches a couple weeks ago. Best GWB

Besides, if God had meant for us to be vegetarians, our eyes would be on the sides of our head like a bunny rabbit and we would be damn funny looking. Looks like you all did good and had a good time doing so. Even the rocks don't last forever.
