Odd Color Variation on White Tail

I am not much of a hunter. I take my bow to a friends farm every once in a while (have gotten 3 deer in 2 years.) However, I work outside and see numerous white tails every day, but I have never seen one like this. I took these pictures from the window of my house while he was feeding on my azaleas. Sorry for the quality, the pictures were taken by one of those old film cameras.

Just wondering how rare/common this color variation is.

Thank,
Matt

That variation is called a piebald. Not extremely rare but not common either. I'd love to get one like that! What part of the country are you in?

Yes indeed - Piebald.

It seems to have the FAT(ready for the skillet) Squirrel concerned about what it could be. Wink They tend to ignore Deer where I Hunt.

Nice flicks.

I live in eastern WV and maybe 15 thru 30 yrs ago when our deer population was out of sight we had ALOT color varitions in our deer. Actually saw a piebald that had hair 2-3" long all over its body.

That's pretty cool. Interestingly, I have never seen a picture of a whitetail with melanistic(Black) color though.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Is it me, a flaw in the photo or is Harsh Strider's buck missing part of his tail, or has an unusually short tail???

Had a bunch of Piebalds and Albinos living close to me in Ninety Six, SC about 25 years ago.

But I've never seen a Black one. Sure appreciate both sets of flicks.

But did you catch the size of that squirrel on the tree! Compared to our little red squirrels, chipmunk size, that thing looks like a bus.

That is just a grey squirrel, fox squirrels are a little bigger yet.

Not to hijack the thread but since someone showed an interest here's a couple bushytails, three eastern grays and an eastern fox.
The rifle is an ancient Mossberg relined and reamed to 17mach2, the best squirrel round I've ever seen!

That is a cool picture...I have a friend who raises deer and he has a piebald buck.

I have killed a half dozen melanistic fox and gray squirrels and the black/grays are somewhat common on the farm I lease in Northern Missouri.

Tuesday night I seen a black panther or two on TV during the election.
