Does anyone have the number of whitetail deer killed every year in the US? And the numbers of muledeer, elk, antelope and pigs killed also? thanks, captdavid "It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." One would most likely have to research state by state. I never seen a country wide list. Here in Wis we kill several hundred thousand whitetails a year and about 3000 blk bears.

It's around 6 million, I tabulated that from each states reported harvest a couple years ago. That is hunter harvest and does not include other mortalities like roadkill. So figure 6,000,000 times an average yield of 60 lbs. of venison for a total of 360,000,000 lbs. Say a serving is 6 ounces and those deer provided 960,000,000 meals. And then just for fun, compare the environmental value, including the food values, of hunting white-tailed deer with rock climbing or mountain biking. Which is a really fun discussion to have with the antis. I have the data on mulies, elk, feral hogs and black bear lying around somewhere, I'll look around.

Quite a success story for wildlife management, as well as for hunters. We should be proud of what we've accomplished. MG
