Here is something you don't see everyday. This bowhunter was hunting exotics on a ranch that is about 2-3 miles from our vacation house in Leakey, Texas. She thought a big hog was coming out but realized it was a black bear! And to think I was cursing hogs for knocking over my feeder!!! http://www.theleakeystar.com/_sub_categories/sportsman_news/main.htm Wes Webber An Armed Society Is a Polite Society

That's interesting. Last November, there was an uncomfirmed sighting around Roosevelt (near Junction). The guy claimed he watched the bear for about 10 minutes as it worked along a spring-fed stream before disappearing into the junipers. Maybe he wasn't sipping homemade wine as I originally thought... Bobby,, I know exactly where Roosevelt is...I had a lease there for a couple of years. I have also heard of people seeing bears there over the years. I just wish they were here in huntabble numbers. Wes Webber An Armed Society Is a Polite Society

My friend Bob Ramsay has, on several ocassions had to loan out his bear trap to Texas Parks and Wildlife in order to attept to catch a black bear in the Texas hill country. Bob is in his mid-80's now but his mind is still sharp and he has told me that, over the years, black bear have traveled through the hill country. Bob told me that Parks and Wildlife told him that it is illegal to shoot them, even for a state game warden, but they can be trapped or "darted" by a game warden to be moved. As a hunter/conservationist/outdoorsman I say... GO BEARS!! The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

There are rumors of bears in the pecan bottoms along the Guadalupe River near Cuero. I've personally seen other animals on my property between Cuero & Gonzales that supposedly do not exist in this area. Encouraging. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Back in the mid '70's, I was at "squirrel camp" with my Grandfather in San Augustine county in east Texas, and a couple of the older teenagers ran into a black bear while hunting in a creek bottom. I personally think it would be pretty cool to have bears back in east Texas.

WOW!! I used to work on a ranch in Medina, which is just down the road from Leakey. I've hunted in various parts of the Hill Country all my life, so I know it pretty well. That is truly a rare event! Congrats to the lady bowhunter who filmed it!! _______________________________________________________ Hunt Report - South Africa 2022 Wade Abadie - Wild Shot Photography Website | Facebook | Instagram
