Alligator Hunting
Anybody here ever gone after one of these things? If so, I'd like to hear about it and also maybe get some info on a decent guide/outfitter for them.I've been thinking about it just for a chance to do something different. Sounds as though it could be interesting.

I was hog huntin in South Ga. a long time ago and was way back in the swamps when I see this big ole alligator and I blasted him with a 444 Marlin. Now proud of my kill I drag this gator back out with me thinking what a trophy.A buddy says to me he's a nice one but I think it's against the law to shoot them.Naw I tell him it can't be hell I done the world a favor about like killin a snake.
So I go to a sports shop (without the gator) and ask is it legal to kill gators.NO it ain't it's a $10000.00 fine and or up to 10 years in prison for killin gators!!!
I didn't tell them to late I done killed one,I just kinda got rid of the evidence and have never mentioned it again till now.I had absolutely no idea,I really figured it was like killin a snake,no big deal!!! That was over 25 years ago and I was just a dumb kid. [Frown]

I have a good 'Gator outfitter in Louisiana. They take some pretty good ones every year. It's supposed to be a pretty fun hunt, althoguh I have never done one myself. They usually fish for Speckled Trout and Reds after the morning Alligator hunts.

To catch the Gators, they set baited hooks, then come check them in the morning. You can elect to pass him if it's not big enough and they will release it if possible. That's pretty much the only way to hunt them or they'll sink when you shoot them. If you're interested, send me an e-mail and I will mail a packet.

I take it the days of spotlights and weighted clubs are over. Too bad, but that would have been the good ol' days, too. Gators are not too damned aweful difficult to find and kill. This isn't even as challenging as hunting bison in a 15,000 acre pasture.
