Just got back from a great 4 days in the Hill Country (high fenced-11,300 acres). I got invited to a hunt on a private ranch near Medina Texas last Thursday through Sunday and had a great time. The primary purpose of the hunt was Russian Boar, they call it "creeping". Basically there are several areas down near the rivers that the boars congregate, you creep in at night with a flashlight and pistol(or rifle for the testosterone impaired) and let the fun begin. The boar hunts start around 10:30 at night after the moon is up good and goes until 2-3 in the morning, or whenever you've had enough. Let me tell you, coming up on a dozen boars in the dark of the night with a pistol and then turning your flashlights on them will really get your heart pounding.

Anyway, I saw a large group of Texas Dall when we were coming off the mountain, they were located on the far side of a large open area feeding. I came up on a road that ran about 1/2 mile behind them and used a dry river bed running on the north side of the field to get to about 130 yards for this one.

Good lookin' ram.

I think I would worry more about snakes than the hogs crawling around in the dark, but that's just me. Don't like snakes!

Get any shots at hogs?

Yep, we got 8 pigs total that weighed between 50 and 160 lbs., I didn't take any pic's of them because they are just ugly. I worry about snakes a lot also but the guy say's he has only seen two in the last three years. Apparantly the boars love to eat snakes.

Nice sheep, is it a mix of dall sheep and something else?

Merino, perhaps?? Merino rams can have some quite incredibly curly horns.

I'm not sure if it's a mix or not to be honest. He has two fairly large herds of sheep that include these "Texas Dall" they call them, Black Hawaiian and some four horn sheep. They all tend to congregate together. There were about 20 white sheep, 8-10 black and 3 four horn in this group when I saw them.
