It would be a mounter in my neck of the woods.... Florida...where you have to go north to get south.

A trophy is in the eye of the beholder. I know guys who have deer most folks think are small mounted because there was such a great hunting story behind bagging the beast. I also know guys who have big deer mounted that they shot after climbing out of the pickup truck. I have a deer at the taxidermist right now that is a great deer by my standards, his face is all scarred up from fighting and he has a beautiful color about him. I'm not the kind of guy who mounts every deer I kill, but I thought this deer would be a good one to look at, and each time I glance his way the whole hunt will come back to me. Maybe not a monster by some folks standards, but who give a ratt's what they think! MG

Everyone has their own idea of what a true throphy is to himsself and Ironically many times it doesn't have much to do w/ his antler size. I've shot some bucks on hunts where it just seemed too easy and those deer aren't near the throphy to me as some that were smaller but, taken from different areas. Another thing is geographical location....Trophies differ from one region to the next. For instance where I grew up hunting in the piney hills if you got a 110" buck, he was a wall hanger for sure and everyone around the camp would want to rub on the horns but, In some areas I've hunted 110" deer were babies. We have one area in the crop lands of the Miss river delta where we consider 130s-140s bucks wall hangers. I also still hunt piney woods areas where 120 class bucks are monsters. In Iowa, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and several other states you have to darn near get one in the 160s-170s to turn heads then, in other states those type of animals are unheard of or the occasional state records. It's all about what it means to you. It's going to be in your house and in your mind. If you think it's a throphy, Hang em' on the Wall. I just killed a big 8 point last week that probably wont score real high but, It was a very memorable hunt and he will definitely hang on my wall. That 140 class 9pter in my avitar ain't near the biggest buck in the woods but, after the 4 hours and three shots it took me to get that dude. he'll be on my wall and a Throphy in my mind forever. I truly feel sorry for you.....you may never shoot a larger whitetail the rest of your life. Have it mounted as it may be your best of a lifetime. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have never mounted a deer head. I have said if I shot one well over 20 inchs in side I would consider it. I have always used the money that would go into mounting to buy another rifle. Using that as a thophy instead of the mount. They are big enough to mount at least but them on a board.

I'd find a spot on my wall for him. Jeff In the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king.

Congratulations on a great buck. Where ever you hunt that is a fine whitetail. Mounting and style of mounting are personal matters and if you have to ask, then I would ask you, do you want to? How important is having a mount of whatever type to you? Would the bride object to it's presence? Pam and I have seven mounts in our bedroom alone.. space problems, but no "I don't like that sort of thing problems." My smallest whitetail mount is about 80" and the largest is 182 gross. Love them all for the memories they represent. It's for you to decide. Member NRA, SCI- Life #358 28+ years now! DRSS, double owner-shooter since 1983, O/U .30-06 Browning Continental set.

I was hunting with my father and brother in our ultra-secret spot at Camp Gruber, OK when I killed my first buck nearly thirty years ago. He was a 4x4 whitetail, and his rack had the classic shape that whitetails used to get before people started dosing them with hormone-laced corn. It's beautiful, but only a bit larger than a basketball. It's the only rack I ever kept. Okie John "The 30-06 works. Period." --Finn Aagaard
