So, I was down in Montana before Thanksgiving and I noticed a guide wearing a Victornox knife in a leather sheath. I asked him where'd he get the sheath and he had just happened to find one that fit. I'd love to be able to carry a Victornox, those things are razors. I have a Benchmade knife that came with a plastic sheath that I'd like to replace with leather. I'd also like to have some gun slips made, (no fringe,) maybe a sturdy belt, cartridge holders, etc, and it just so happens that I have alot of backskins leather and an entire tanned hide or two laying around here. Any suggestions here? Names or phone numbers?I could mail a box of skins and hides down to the lower 48 easy enough. I'm not looking for collector or heirloom quality, the truth of the matter is I loose stuff, break stuff and generally shouldn't be allowed to touch anything of value. Keep your hands in your pockets my dad used to tell me. Thanks in advance.

I make some for myself, hardly museum quality but from thick leather and laced with leather. So far, a sheath for a nice Swedish skinning knife, and a holster for a Stevens 44 pistol. I have several for both folding and fixed blade knives that I purchased from sporting goods stores and from a guy at a muzzleloading show we used to attend years back. You might try doing an online search first Roger ___________________________ I'm a trophy hunter - until something better comes along. *we band of 45-70ers*

Thanks, based on Shy's advice I looked on Amazon and bought. That still doesn't help me with the mountain of skins I've got not the other stuff I'm interested in. Any recommendations for shops?

Scott: I have had quite a bit of great work done at a fair price: Three nice knife sheaths $20 each and half dozen various holsters Plus other misc items. They make MANY leather coats, chaps, pants etc. for the biker world too. Beautiful work as you spec it. D&W Leather Text: 719/251-4632 Deb owner, or Jean or call 719/542-4117 515 S. That craft is kind of lacking in Dillingham and is why I'm asking for names and numbers.

Nope, they look homemade. They work fine. I'd encourage folks to try their hand at it, though. TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

I have made several. Just grab some 10 oz tanned cowhide and have at it. Like Ray said, any good saddle maker can make one in his sleep.

If you are talking about using game hide you have, talk to your taxidermist. They probably do not do it (some do), but they should be able to give you some contacts. I know Murray leather (in Texas) used to be willing to make goods out of your game skins, but I don’t know if they still will. You could try going to a local gun show- there is usually someone selling sheaths and such they make at them, and see if you could commission such work. I had a belt and holster done that way, but that was long ago.

There ain't much I miss about Anchorage, but the Lions Club Gun Show is certainly one reason. I haven't been in more than 20 years, but back then, (pre black gun era,) it was awesome. Good quality and variety of sporting guns as well as good prices. I found my LH .375 there as well as a 10ga semi auto Browning. I am interested in using the game hides I have and there are no saddle makers in AK. I googled and called around and there's nobody up here I can find interested. The last thing I need is another past time/ hobby/ chore. I just got a phone call this afternoon asking if I wanted five laying chickens. word is out that I built a wire enclosure last year and now folks want to use me for "overflow". I gotta find a coop, feed, straw, heated water bowl etc asap.
