Opening day was a short one for us. After waiting 9 years for the tag it was all over in the 1st hour. Couldn't beat having my 4 year old right next to me. Spot and stalk that ended with a 35 yard shot. She trailed him the 150 yards to his final resting place. She's talked about all day long now!

Thanks guys. Best part was being able to have Macy with me. Dropped him off at the taxidermist and she informed me that he IS going to hang over her bed. I'd say she's hooked. Already asking to tag along on my AZ early archery bull hunt this fall. Any luck on tags Ty?

Good grief Lance, you drew an early elk tag this year?

Man, if I was you, I'd be headed for the race track Big Grin

No tags for me, just points soup...

They are big birds. The largest of the five subspecies.

You put it very politely Ty. I think I was called just about every name in the book by most guys! My wife drew with me but we'll be donating her tag to Wishes for Warriors and hosting them at our home. My 14 year old daughter also drew the late rifle bull here in our backyard.

I didn't get a weight on my bird but I'd guess him to be in the low 20s. 8 1/4" beard and only one spur.

Wow. My neighbor killed one last year here in Central Ky that had a 14.5" beard but only weighed 18 lbs.

14.5" would be something to see. Guy killed one with a 11" beard the day after I shot mine. His was much lower in the oak country. Shot mine around 8200'. Never intended to shoot a slam but now I'm thinking I'll try to work on the eastern and a Osceola just to do it. Good excuse to see new country and meet some new people.

I'll take a picture of it and post it. It was a trophy for sure.

It never occurred to me that a turkey would be hanging out at 8200'. Way cool!
