I have the chance of picking up a marlin 336 in 35 remington at a great price. I already have a 30-30 that I use for brush hunting. Is the 35 remington any better or just a bigger caliber and does the same thing. The rifle is in mint condition and really looks like it needs a new home. Also if anyone has a good deer load for this cartridge, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I like the .35 more than the 30-30, and I have both. I have a .35 Rem model 81 WoodsMaster. I love the way it crushes deer with 200 gr softpoints. I can shoot it well out to about 175 yards.

It's a little stronger but not much. Anytime I get a great deal on a near mint condition rifle I'm prone to buy...quickly. If you like your 30/30 you will love the .35.

the 35 Reminton is great. I found it to be very effective even on cow elk inside of 150 yds. I think u will find it "dumps" animals.

I would load Speer 180s or hard cast 180s. H335 is a good powder for it

Hey marcus, I'm also a 35cal fan. People that use 35cal rifles and revolvers of any type normally become very fond of them. They kill well, normally provide Exits for a good blood trail(which normally isn't needed, they are accurate for their intended range, work well with LOTS of Powders and Bullet combinations, etc.

One other great thing which Mike eased into is shooting "hard cast"(Lead) bullets, for either plinking or hunting. When you find a particular Lead bullet Load your rifle likes, it is possible to buy them in quantity and get the shot cost down to less than 10 cents/cartridge or less than $2/box of 20 cartridges.

It will date me a bit, but I can remember when you could do it for 3 cents/shot on the 35cal revolvers.

Hard to beat the 180gr Speer FP Hot-Cor as a hunting bullet in the 35Rem. Shoot for a shoulder and it will be time for the Drag Stick.

Great caliber and an excellent rifle which allows you to easily remove the bolt and clean it from the Chamber end.
