I've got too many guns to really have an "old faithful", they're faithful but I'm not. Most of the time I carry a .300 WM M70 with a shilen barrel but I also use a 99 in .308, a Marlin 1984CB in .38-55, etc. etc. This year I'm going to try to shoot most of my deer with various pistols.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I shot my moose this year with a new rifle.

I had a used 30-06 all set up for moose hunting. I have shot a couple hundred rounds through it and had it scoped and a hunting load made up for it.

On the day I shot my moose we were going to an area than can afford closer shots so I took my open sighted H&R 500 S&W. My brother in Law had ascoped 300 ultra so I could pass farther bulls to him. The shot was 15-20 feet so I got my moose this year with a new gun.

After hunting with the same rifle for 30 years, 7mm rem mag on CV24 mauser action, I broke down and bought my first new gun. Browning BLR lightweight in 300 Win Mag, have developed a sweet load with 180 gn Barnes TSX over RL 22, 1.05 in groups at 200 yards. I can not wait to try it in our Sangres on elk.

I live in a shotgun deer state[Indiana]. Been using the same Rem. 870 slug gun, since 1991. However, since Indiana passed the PCR firearm rule, I'll be using an 1894 Marlin, .44 mag. with LE ammo. Can't wait.

Tight times last year, had to sell my rifles Frowner So this year, its all new guns! However the 1 that will for sure be elk hunting this year was bought as a used rifle, and by the looks of the stock she has seen her fair share of hunting seasons. Win M70 300wby, picked her up for under 350$ I MIGHT pick up a used Wby MkV ultralight in 280 Rem that I saw...we'll see. Not sure but my ultralight being built may be done, 300wsm on a R700, 'smith is shooting for sub 6lbs

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I'll be using "old faithful" a 6.5x54mm commercial Mannlicher M1903 carbine and a new Mauser M-66 in 7x57mm, both for Texas Whitetails. I don't go for the "newbies", except for the .260 Remington which is only a clone of the 6.5x54mm.

I voted for both but that is not really true. I have several rifles that are not bloodied that I plan on using along with one of my Ol' Faithfuls.

The Ol' Man said, "Son, don't brag to me about how long a shot you made. Brag to me about how close you got!"
I asked, "Well how close should I get, Big Daddy?"
He answered,"Close 'nuff to see their eyes."
The next day I went and bought a scope.
