I posted this a few days ago in the Canadian Forum, but haven't got any replies as of yet.. Lets see if I can get any info from here.. Thanks guys!

Have any of you here on AR done a hunt for one of these beasts?? I'm toying the idea of booking a hunt for one here in the near future.. If you've done this hunt, let me know what I'm in for.. ie. cost of the trip in total, what to expect, how the hunt went, who you went with, etc..

I was really close to booking a PAC ele hunt in Zim for next yr., but I think I've swayed my mind into doing either the muskox hunt or a Rocky Mtn. goat in BC for next year's hunt.

Thanks guys and hope to hear from some of you that have done this hunt!

Scottyboy,

I hunted Musk Ox a few years ago on a combination Caribou/Musk Ox hunt with Jonah of Bekere Lake outfitters in northern NWT. It was a great hunt!

It was a very comfortable fly-in camp from Inuvik. Transportation across the tundra was by ATV. All hunters in camp shot two Caribou, and I also shot a Musk Ox. One of my Caribou and my Musk Ox qualified for the B&C book.

I had my taxidermist do a double pedistal mount of my Caribou, and a life size mount of my Musk Ox. A while back I posted some pictures of the Musk Ox mount on the Canadian Forum on a Thread called "How to carry a Musk Ox."

IMO the fall hunt is much better than fighting the bitter cold of a winter hunt. The coat on my Musk Ox was very good, plus we hunted Caribou and fished for Northern Pike and Lake Trout.

I did the Fall Hunt out of Cambridge Bay in 2000.

Jerome Knapp of Canda North Outfitters was the outfitter.

I got both a Musk Ox and a Caribou.

I think the cost has gone up now that Nunavut Natives are involved in the business.

Seems like I saw something recently where a Musk Ox hunt alone was something like 6K, and a second Ox could be had for 1K or 1.5K.

I believe adding a caribou jumped the price up a good bit.

The weather was fairly nice at that time of year, temperatures were in the 30's at nights, mid to upper 40's during the day.

JMO, but the exciting part is getting to the hunting grounds, the actual hunt anfd kill of a Musk Ox is not that great, sort of like shooting someones cow out in a pasture.

The animals are not pressured enough to make them wary of humamns.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

Thank you for the reports and info guys!! Like I mentioned, I'm going to be looking hard at either this hunt or a goat hunt to book at Dallas this yr.
Thanks!
