I have heard of the jacket staying in the bore of very rough bores. haven't seen it. I know that this is a common partice in areas that sporting ammo isn't readly had. My Dad says it was a common to do in the 30's and 40's . One of his freinds use only 30-40 mil with nose filed kill the white tails he shot with fine. As with anything be careful.

Hi If you shoot 8x57js and old boattail 198 gr bullet and you fil 1 mm it may do well(not all the times),but in 7,62x51 which are loaded at higher presure and flat base(more exposed lead) it may give you a lot of problem. best regards Danny

During WW2, ammo was unavailable except for a little blackmarket 30-06 that you could trade a bottle of whiskey for to some interprising GI.... I shot a world of deer with this stuff with the tips ground off and without the tip gound... It either did extensive damage or drilled them, and sometimes it tumbled and that was damaging..It taught a lot of Americans how to track... I finally just shot them with the solid GI bullet as it came and tried to get a couple of shots in them before they got out of sight...It killed quite well with a perfect shot even when it just drilled, it didn't work well if you were off the heart...It also killed better if you cracked the shoulder and got secondary bone fragments working for you or so it seemed... ------------------
