Boileroom..

You won't be disappointed with the bullets, especially if you hit the shoulder, like Rob did. I've never seen a bear go down so fast.

In fact, I'm going to change my black bear tactics so I break both shoulders. I've always tried to take out the lungs and break one shoulder, but they can go a long way on three legs...especially downhill!!

We've already been to the sheep hunt area twice. Just got back last night, in fact. [Frown]

I don't think it's going to be nearly the adventure, but if I have a good story, I'll post it. [Razz]

The only legal ram we saw was hanging out with 10 ewes in a farmers field [Frown]

Great job of narrating a great hunt!!! I especially appreciate the admissions of the mistakes you made that all of us do, but that seldom find there way into print!!!

PS- I'd like to see an imprint of your paw print next to the bears!!!!!!

Very well done Gatehouse! You have made memories for a lifetime & you did it yourselves; no guide just you & your hunting companion. As others have already said well written indeed! Keep writing, you have the gift. [Wink]

Thanks...actually I would have LOVED you to be there, too!!! You've got a hell of alot more experience hutning grizlies than we did!! [Smile]

Yeah, he was about 7 foot from nose to tail, but we didn't measure him. I figure anything that makes me look small HAS to be big!! [Smile] I was holding on to his head, so it's not liek I was standing a mile behind him for the picture, either!! [Wink] His head and paws were abnormally large, though.

I don't know what the deal was...It wasn't a case of being a little bear with a proportionally larger head though. I seem to think he was a freak [Smile] ...we haven't scored the skull yet, though.

We're hunting California Bighorns near Lillooet. My buddy has a LEH tag for the area. (He lucked out this year- sheep and grizz!!!) It is almost like a desert bighorn hunt. These sheep seem to act alot like Whitetails, and like to hide in the timber. It's been pretty frustrating, but it's only 2 hours away from home, so we still are going to make at least one and maybe two more trips.

I want to do a more 'regular' sheep hunt next year. Maybe get a plane to fly us in somewhere. I'll get in touch with you and you can put an 'X' on a map for me [Big Grin]

Do you have any comical hunting stories this year? Any Serbian Generals or Greenpeacers? [Razz]

Mistakes were made aplenty by us...

I think mistakes are always made every time you go on a hunt, or just a hike, into the backcountry.

Sometimes the stories in the magazines touch on the mistakes, but I find they rarely tell the whole story...Who want's to say that they screwed up in print?

Like I said before, I'm no writer, but I'm not proud..I've screwed up before and will do so in the future. i just told the story as it happened...I'm not lookng for glory, just sharing an interesting experience, that many won't have the chance to do...I'll take interesting experiences over trophy books any day [Smile]

clarke,

You guys did great! I would have loved to be there just to help you guys screw things up. I hate to brag but I am darn good at it. I once left my rifle behind. I know you had beer with you to go along with all the good cooking. I am just envious, is all.

I am curious to how old the bear is. Does your game dept. take a tooth. If they do, they will know how old it is.

I do know of a good spot for stones. It is a fly in. Horses can get in but it takes 5 long days to trail in. I have wanted to go back in there for a stone with a buddy(BC resident)but I have been to busy to do it. I will put an X down for you and then some. Good caribou and goat country to boot.

As far as stories go, it has been quiet the last 2 years. I have one that I have not told anyone here. It has been a hit up here and really getting around. I have wanted to post it but writing it does not have the same effect.
