Well I don't know any thing about this guide service but have started looking at them for a bear hunt. Maybe someone here knows about them?

I live here, and I have a permit. Zones 2,3,5,6 are the best bet. I have zone 3 Smiler

Congrats! This was my first year entering any draws- hope to draw moose by the time I'm 50 (27 years).

I favor the woods and choppings. Broccoli field hunting turn the whole thing into a spectator event.

we're staying on madawaska lake and the next road up 161 gets us back into the Blackstone so that is my initial thought. I'd really like to call in a bull this time.

Try between RT.161 and RT 1, I travel 1A every day and see moose either coming or goin' day or night. THe Sullivan road is a good bet and it intersects 161, it's the road to Blackstone and on to Van Buren.

In 2008 I saw a corker of a bear on the Sullivan Road. Not enough time to get close and get out of the truck but a real beaut.

Off the Sullivan Road would you search for little ridges with streams/bogs in them or just hit all the side roads?

In the late 80's the area was criscross with good road. Now most are deadended, But they make great trails to walk on for both man and moose. Park the truck, walk with an idea about any parallel roads. Look around for an older Delorne map.

Hi J,

Southport is the island just west of us here in Boothbay. Never heard of that guy as a guide which doesn't necessarily mean anything but, I'd at least look for someone who lives near where you'll be hunting. Which zone are you in for starters? You can certainly 1/4 out a moose in Maine but generally it's not a wilderness hunt although you'll be in some mighty big woods!

Most folks use logging roads and then cover as much ground as they can spotting the choppings or they scout first and set up calling spots. That is except for one 3 where I'll be which is the most framland of all the zones. The game changes a little there.

We just set up our guide but did it a little differently this time. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Jeff

I'd also try the OXBOW Lodge and Outfitters. I've hunted with them before and they are quite good.

GL....17 years and no permit (Yet!)

Agreed. DeLorme is the best here. In fact, at corporate HQ down in Yarmouth, they have the biggest globe in the world. It is tilted as the planet is and rotates the same speed as the planet does. It stands some 40 feet tall in an enclosed, glassed-in space and one may walk up and down on three decks to see it within about 6 feet. All satellite imagery and then painted.

To say Africa is huge is one thing but to see Asia is truly awe inspiring!

Our luck is doubled: we have a bull and a cow tag for WMD 3 in October!
