WOW! What happened at the shot? Did he turn and run? Keep charging and run by? From what I can see, looks like a great bear, and congratulations. That must have been a rush that made your heart skip a beat or 2.

Where taken? I had the good fortune to take my first bear with a bow in Alberta but if your situation happened to me, I think I'd be history.

This year was my 29th opening day Georgia bow hunt in a row.23 years in a row with a recurve, first time i ever got lucky on opening day and harvested game.I feel like i won the lotto. All my years of practice payed off big time!My stick and string saved my life!Georgia DNR bear biologist thinks when bear came over ridge top i was allready in his charge zone/to close. He came at me from behind and was allready running full bore at me when i realized he was anywhere around.Time stood still! He turned/bowed like a cat at the last second and offered me the shot i took.He ran streight away after being hit and i waited 1 hour before tracking.Found him dead on another ridge, half way down back side of it.Went back next day tracking to find my arrow and lady luck smiled again and i found the broadhead but not the feather end of shaft. It is a dream bowhunt i will always remember! The bear made me earn his hide!I will hunt in a treestand from now own! thumb
I had my back up against a white oak tree and thought about the atlanta rythem section song Later-when i calmed down- my back was against the wall!
I hope by sharing my good luck with you friends that maybe some will rub off............ thumb
I know now why they tell hikers on the appallachian trail to make noise and not suprise a bear! They are not huggie toys and deserve respect.I sure am glad i had my stick and string!Thank you JESUS! thumb

Black Bear Hunter-My neighbor(A Minister from Elk City Idaho)shot a nice Bull last year with his bow.He set it down and went to cut it's throat in very steep country, and was hit or attacked from behind from a Black bear that as he bent over went flying over the top of him ripping his new jacket to threads. He then picked his bow back up as the Bear got his feet under him in the steep terrain and let him have it with an arrow as he was spinnin dirt trying to come back on him from the bottum of the Elk and killed it..

You would have to know the guy..Very coll calm and collected and I must say,A very lucky man and ofcourse the F&G had to check out everything to see it was a legal kill. Roll Eyes

Nice Bear..

How do i clean the skull?I will have to wait 2 months to see what it scored right? How much do they shrink? Will boiling it make it shrink anymore than just air drying? What would you do?I thought about just tying it to a tree and let the bees have at it,but worry about my pet squirrels haveing a knawing contest.
Also does anyone have any good recipes or tips for cooking bearmeat?Cook like pork?BBQ or wrap in bacon on grill?Bear Burgers? Thanks thumb
