1. .338 Win Mag.-the most useful hunting cartridge I have ever used and the recoil is not that bad.
2. .280 Rem.-a handloaders round and my slight favourite over the .270 for deer hunting, no real reason.
3. 9.3x74R-a very useful round when loaded with 286 Nozzies in my Merkel drilling and it shoots well, too.
4. .308 Win.- a "big gun" in a small package and very useful in my BLR and Sako Finnwolf for deer hunting and it can be stretched for bigger stuff with Nozzie 180 Pts., but, I feel better with more gun.
5. .45-70--With heavy, premium bullets and hot, but safe loads, this is for self-defence in Grizzly country while on extended backpack trips where my .375 is much too long and heavy, a very accurate combo, but, a bitch to shoot due to savage recoil.

Mike,
about your reply I can agree with you except JWB. I'm sorry , but I don't like wiskey. I prefer good grappa.
About wines, beers and liquors, there are however a lot of other rounds to consider.

About rounds that make BANG , here they are:
9.3x62
6.5x55SE
7x64 Brenneke
.222Rem
.22k-hornet

bye

In no particular order...

>>> 1 >>357 Sig--Glock carry gun
>>> 2 >>10 ga mag--wild turkey
>>> 3 >>.54 flintlock--whitetailed deer\bear
>>> 4 >>.223 Rem AI--punching paper\varmints
>>> 5 >>.338-06 AI--African plains game

I find little use for the .22long rifle, and two pistols and one rifle collect dust. What 'trips my trigger' is the satisfaction I get in handloading the bang, and I feel very fortunate in the ever-increasing abundance of components to do just that. And of course my second amendment rights to make it all possible.
