Thanks for the post. Actually the Regional Biologist is my hunting partner so I have picked the brains of the DWM's. I am looking for recent sightings this fall. The moose in the unit tend to move alot and it's a big unit! Thanks again!

In used to fish for brook trout in St Louis Creek behind Fraser. There was alway moose sign back there and I saw them on many occasions. Take the road back as far as you can until you hit the Forest Service gate. From there you can hike all the way to the Continental Divide if you want. Lots of marshy ground along the creek and thick stands of pine on the hills. Willows and such in the creek bottom. Might be worth looking into. Mac

Hi Ryan, It seems to me I always here of sightings right off the highway between Fraser and Winter Park. I would start by contacting the DOW and finding out who is the DWM for the area. Call the DWM and pick his or her brain on where the moose are. As all moose have to have harvest reports you can also go to the DOW offices in Denver and go through the harvest reports from previous years. It will hopefully give you some guidelines. Good luck.

Thanks for the post Mac. I scouted the river bottom up from the Beyers Peak camp ground last weekend. Tracked a cow and calf in the snow and saw quite a bit of sign (tracks) - at least 5 seperate moose. It's on my watch list as the season nears. I am tracking down several reports of some big bulls in different areas of the unit. hope to have a big one tied up by opening day!
