Recovered this Hornady165IB from a buddy's Elk. Elk was at severe angle away, impact velocity approx 2800fps, passed through rump then penerated 30" through guts and one rib ending up against hide @ diaphram, weighed 147gr for 89% weight retention, mushroom was .808" at widest and .630" at narrowest. Bullet was not placed into vitals and Elk required followup shot, but proved to penetrate and retain weight very well. May load these up for Elk next year in my 30Gibbs hopefully with a mv of 3100fps+ for Elk since I have not been overly impressed with the Barnes XLC's on my Elk.

Textbook expansion....good job! I have not tried them on elk, but have heard some great reviews for this bullet, especially on tough game like elk.
