I was feeling a little "artistic" this evening....and thought I would pay tribute to my South Texas Water Buffalo hunt from last year.

Not all trophy photos have to be taken in the field.

Wendell,

It is mounted on a very large piece of mesquite.

Yeah it is!! There are actually three massive pieces to the base: the oval shaped piece where the skull sits, the base (which is the largest piece...nearly 3 inches thick), and the wedge holding the two together. All of it with the skull probably weighs 80-90 lbs. It is VERY heavy.

The taxidermist I use for my euro mounts gets the mesquite from a gentleman in Kerrville that owns a sawmill. He will custom make just about any mesquite bases/plaques my taxi requests.

You are correct....and it would look better if it was. I wasn't really expecting to get that good of a photo, and I had simply grabbed one of the sticks out of my humidor for the picture. But I don't smoke inside my house anyway.
