I picked up a pair of SportEars this summer to use while hunting. The sound cutoff works well enough that I've been using them at the range as well.

Pete,
Do they actually magnify sound - other than loud noises, intended to be dampened??

How well do they fit - being "one size fits all"??

How comfortable have they been to wear, how long do you wear them at a time?? Is it a problem to wear them when it is warm??

What about wind-noise??

Sorry about all the questions, but the product looks very interesting, if not exactly cheap.

I use the Proears Dim II's and certainly they have the good and the bad. It is nice to be able to plug in the radios or a disc player I guess as I have not used music while hunting, yet. They do have the wind noise but you can adjust that down to acceptable levels. Yes, in the humidity of the great brush country of S. Texas they do have the sweats but I am now trained to use them and do enjoy hearing the outdoors that is missed wiithout them.

I've started wearing sonic II's when I hunt. They get a little uncomfortable after a while but my hearing sure isn't getting any better. I took about 4 extra pairs with me the last time I went to Africa. My PH was very happy to get them.

Terry:

I got a pair of the Sonic IIs about 15 years ago. They sometimes hurt me, as well. But, they do seem to work.

Just wanted to make sure you knew they now come in different sizes. So, hopefully some of that pain can be alleviated.

Also, Silencio now makes a similar product, FYI.

Mike-

The volume on the SportEars is adjustable. If you have them turned all the way up, mosquitos sound like f-15's taking off. I use them at lower settings, but they definitely do magnify the sound.

I've found them to be very comfortable. You can acutally go to a hearing aid specialist and get custom impressions made for your ears, which will fit perfectly. The guy I bought them from has sold 14 pairs so far, and only one person has had to get the custom impressions made. They really don't seem to be a problem in heat either.

Wind noise isn't that bad at all. If you get the digital ones, they will also automatically block out reptitive background noise (running water from a river, etc.). I used them on a bear hunt in Alaska where I spent many hours sitting in rivers and they did a decent job of cutting down the background noise from the water, yet allowed me to hear everything else.

So far, I really like them. No complaints.
