Leading Conservation Groups to Rush Limbaugh: Cease Support of HSUS

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance has joined the nation’s leading conservation organizations in sending a letter to Rush Limbaugh urging the talk radio personality to cease his support of America’s number one opponent of sportsman traditions, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

The groups who sent the letter are: the Archery Trade Association, Boone and Crockett Club, Catch a Dream Foundation, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Conservation Force, Dallas Safari Club, Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited, Houston Safari Club, Masters of Foxhounds Association of North America, Mule Deer Foundation, National Shooting Sports Foundation, National Trappers Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, North American Bear Foundation, North American Grouse Partnership, Pheasants Forever, Pope and Young Club, Quail Forever, Quality Deer Management Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Texas Wildlife Association, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, Whitetails Unlimited, Wildlife Forever, Wildlife Management Institute, and the Wild Sheep Foundation.

The letter clearly states the essential role played by hunters, fishermen, and trappers in conserving America’s wildlife. It reads:

“Every year, billions of dollars are pumped into conservation and local economies by American hunters, anglers, and trappers through the purchases of their licenses, equipment and clothing, and through their expenditures on hotels, travel, and dining.”

The letter also explains to Mr. Limbaugh the impact his endorsement will have on advancing the HSUS agenda:

“With America’s most prominent conservative spokesman on board, they have the opportunity to make in-roads in to a new cross section of our country.

You are helping them to mainstream their image in the minds of reasonable people. Your collaboration furthers the anti-hunting and anti-fishing agenda of HSUS, which will undermine the great success of conservation and threatens the economies of small towns and rural states across our nation.”

"Most Americans don't know that HSUS does not operate your local animal shelters," said USSA President and CEO Bud Pidgeon. "We believe that confusion leads many to contribute to them thinking that they are helping local dogs and cats. Instead their money is used to push legislation banning hunting rights and more. That is why these 28 conservation organizations have united on this issue."

The USSA will continue working with its partners to raise Mr. Limbaugh and the general public’s awareness of the HSUS agenda.

Am I missing something here? My understanding is that Limbaughs 'support' rises from the use of the Pretenders theme song for his show, which requires him to pay the roayalty to HSUS as specified by the Pretenders.
If I am wrong in my thinking please educate me. If I am correct, it seems the Pretenders are giving the support not Limbaugh.

Nope, separate issue, that deal was with PETA, Limbaugh's affiliation with HSUS is voluntary on his part.

Here's the background on the Limbaugh/Chrissie Hind/Peta thing from Rolling Stone,

Chrissie Hynde makes Rush Limbaugh pay

The standoff between CHRISSIE HYNDE and radio right-winger RUSH LIMBAUGH is finally over. Since 1984, Limbaugh had been using the "My City Was Gone," the Pretenders lament about the mall-ification of America, without Hynde's consent. According to Hynde's manager, Limbaugh had not licensed the song for his nationally syndicated radio show, nor had he even asked for permission to use it -- something that didn't seem to bother Hynde all that much until Limbaugh told a pair of reporters in 1997 that "it was icing on the cake that it was [written by] an environmentalist, animal rights wacko and was an anti-conservative song. It is anti-development, anti-capitalist, and here I am going to take a liberal song and make fun of [liberals] at the same time." Last month, Hynde finally got Limbaugh to pull the song but then did an about face on Aug. 18, telling him that he could use the song if he donated all the royalties to the animal right's organization PETA, after PETA campaign manager Dan Mathews told her Limbaugh had a soft-spot for animals. She fired off the following missive to PETA to let them know of the recent developments. "In light of Rush Limbaugh's vocal support of PETA's campaign against the Environmental Protection Agency's foolish plan to test some 3,000 chemicals on animals, I have decided to allow him to keep my song, 'My City Was Gone,' as his signature tune and to donate all proceeds from the deal to further PETA's efforts in that regard" ...

I have been trying to tell folks for the past 5 years or so, that where PETA is a bunch of ineffectual idiots, practically everything in their manifesto came straight from HSUS.

The difference is, HSUS has done the majority of their work covertly and have built up a political power base and political credability in many circles.

They used PETA as a Front Group, presenting radical ideas, while HSUS its self stayed in the shadows building a reputation among the average citizen of the U.S., as a caring trustworthy organization.

They want to stop all human manipulation of animals, and that includes hunting and fishing.

I love animals! I love the deer I shoot, the chucks I have shot and all the birds and rabbits I have killed. Yes, I DO love and respect them and protect them and enjoy them until hunting season. But love is bitter and they need to be controlled for their benefit too or we would lose all wildlife.
I love my dogs more then any human on earth. If anyone from PETA or the HSUS even stuck out their hand to pet my dogs, I would shoot the SOB! I don't want my dogs contaminated.
I have an idea! If every hunter and sportsman in the country stopped hunting and fishing, stopped buying a license of any kind for a period of time so that habitat loss, damage and disease ran rampant and states ran out of money, the anti hunters would fade away.
It would be painful and hurt small businesses that depend on us to survive but we could donate the money spent for a license to those we do business with when hunting.

I can only guess and wonder at the militant vegetarians' agenda, but I have a practical problem for them to solve...that is after they stop people from eating anything that walks, runs, crawls, flys or swims away when you go to catch it. How do they propose to stop animal life from doing the same to each other?? Are they thinking thru how to make good on their convictions? Because the only way to be consistent on this is to go on and prevent animals from feeding on each other. And the only way for that is for there to be no animal life at all.

I don't know if they are capable of following their own thinking to that logical conclusion, but that's about where it takes them. And to follow it to its conclusion readily shows that it's a bizarre, mentally unbalanced belief system inhabited by people who aren't screwed on too tight.

Anyway, someone needs to tell Rush that liberty and freedom in America do not possess better, more reliable friends than gun owners and the outdoor sporting community.

And in the extremely unlikely event Rush pays any attention to this board, maybe he knows the name of history's all time most famous vegetarian?

I think Rush is ashamed. He bit into an oreo and found shit in the middle. Now he won't even acknowledge he's made a huge Obamistake.
