I just got back from a great pronghorn hunt in west Texas near Ft. Davis. There were four of us hunting together on a 60,000 acre ranch. We got some scouting done Friday before the season opened. Saturday at first light we were in the field to begin the quest. All four of us ended up taking nice bucks by Saturday evening after a hard day of hunting. The rifle shots ranged from just 100 yards out to 250 yards. It took me a while to stalk mine, but it was sure worth it. One of our hunters took the first buck ever taken on this ranch with a bow at 35 yards. We had the Texas Trophy Hunters Association camerman with us on the hunt. The hunt will be featured next season on their TV show. While we were hunting, we also saw some very nice mule deer. It was a great weekend that we will all remember for a long time.

Rob1SG,

The outfitter has this 60,000 acre ranch and a couple of others in Jeff Davis County. He also guides free-range Aoudad, free-range Axis, and Mule Deer hunts. We did have problems with one of the guides. If you do book with him, make sure he is your guide also.

E-mail me if you want more info. I would also look at Ray's New Mexico hunts.

Wendell,

Would you please send Scott and me some information on your New Mexico pronghorn hunts for next year?

Thanks,

Bob

Nice going, Bob -- and thanks for sharing the photos with us. Now how about some details on bullet performance, etc.?

Hey Bobby,

I was using my 7mm-08 with 139gr. SST's. They did what they were supposed to. I made a double lung shot with a bullet sized entry wound and a silver dollar sized exit. I had managed to stalk pretty close to him up on a ridge line. My shot was only about 100 yards. He took off at full speed and went about 100 yards and piled up in a ball of west Texas dust. It is going to be hard to wait until deer gun season now!! I need to go call some coyotes or go hog hunting.

Good Hunting,

Bob

Hey Bob,

I am in the process of gathering the photos and writing the story. It was a great hunt but I won't go into it here ... this is your Antelope thread!

I will be in touch soon. Take care. [Wink]

As BobC stated, I think I still have two opennings on the New Mexico hunts, that are very close to the ranch he hunted..My rancher has 5 ranches in that area of Texas and New Mexico...Antelope run 15.5 to 17" and a few are a bit larger...

I was born and raised at Marfa, Tex and that's 26 miles from Ft. Davis, so if anyone is hunting that area this year and wants to know how good the hunting is on a particular ranch I could probably give you some insight on most any ranch in the area..
