Well, here are pics of 3 of the 4 whitetails I took last year, camera died before pics of no. 4, I'll try and get him up later.
I tried a different style on one (obviously) no plaque and left the lower jaw on---I like it so far.

ReloaderThose are nice.
They must have used a strong hydrogen pyroxide solution for the bleaching.
I use powdered dishwashing detergent in my water to bleach mine out a bit. It gives it a flat white look. I've also painted them with flat white paint.

Fish30114Yes Reloader they came out nice and white--the one with the jaw left on, they just used the beatles on. I hadn't had one done like that before, but it came out great. I'll get a pic up of one I got in Texas, and they said they just use a pressure washer on it, and then soak it in some Hydrogen Peroxide for a little while???
It looks good too.
Take care--Don

ReloaderYeah, I've seen the Hydrogen Pyroxide soaking on TV. It's so strong of a solution that they dip the skull for just a little while and it eats everything off making it very white and clean. It will eat you too if you get the stuff on ya. I don't even think you can buy HP that strong around here without special permits, everthing is doluted.
I do mine the cheap way: Powdered Dish Washer detergent, a 30-50qt pot full of water boiling on a fish cooker, and drop several heads in. I usually freeze them in bags when I kill them, then after the season I thaw them & take the hide and as much flesh off of the bone as I can. It takes about 4 hours to finish 4 heads. I guess that's better than paying one of the local Taxidermist $125 each to do the very same thing.

calgarychef1Y'know painting isn't such a bad idea. I know a fellow around here that paints the skulls, he's a painter by trade so he's pretty good at mixing his own colors. you'd never know he does so, obviously he won't teach me his secret method......pity.

Fish, how did you get the Beatles? John and George are dead and Paul and Ringo haven't said a word about working together again?
Just kidding, I couldn't resist; I'm a Beatle fan. The band, not the insects. Nice job you did on your skulls. If you seal them with a semi-gloss lacquer, it will help in the long run. Good hunting, David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
