Your thoughts.
I love the Bears, and one day would like to hunt them and bring the beast home for my Trophy Room.
Thanks,

I think it should, huntings track record on saving species is pretty good.

But natue will have the final say with climate I am afraid.

No, USF&WS will never allow that. I have no desire to hunt polar/grizzly or brown bears, but have no problem with those that do.

I just do not see USF&W ever changing their mind onthis one.

Medved is correct. Polar bears still can be hunted legally in Canada and (I think) Russia. As for an American ever being able to import a polar bear trophy again, it depends. It's unlikely but not impossible.

About 15-20 years ago, thanks to the dedication of a member named J. Y. Jones, SCI was able to get Congress to amend the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act to allow American hunters to import polar bear trophies taken in certain areas of Canada.

Most people at the time would have bet great sums of money that this would never happen.

Unfortunately, it will be much tougher the next time around. For one thing, the great unwashed public is convinced that the worldwide population of polar bears is drowning as the polar cap melts.

For another, there are few (if any) people like Jones who will go balls out to get the rules changed.

Even if there were such a person, though, we first would need to start replacing the people making the decisions, starting with the guy sitting in our White House.

Excellent posts. Just finished reading the one about Jaguar in AZ and it seems Polar Bear and Jaguar are in the same boat. Both are hunted extensively by Europeans but not by Americans. USF&WS is not about protecting animals. It is about managing hunters. If that is to the detriment of the animal, so be it. An old Drill SGT told me onetime that if you're trying to shoot yourself in the foot, you need to hold either your foot or the gun still. Just my $.02.

Have you kept abreast of the recent developments regarding the biologist and his data that lead to the removal of the hunts?

It was all a forgery and he was suspended.

I hope a new lawsuit is brought against USF&WS since the removal of the hunts was based on this.
