Congrats on the rifles. The fact that they were your grandpa's makes them really special. I am curious about the savage 340, is that a bolt action? beer

It is wonderful that you are getting your Grandfathers guns. I was saddened when I was in the gun shop and observed a young man with "Grandma", selling her husbands guns Frowner

It looks as though Grandpa had good taste! I'm sorry if your Grandpa is no longer with us and I'm sure those guns will stay in the family.

the Savage 340 is a bolt rifle. I also have some of my grandpa's, two Win. 61's mint, a new 63 Win, a 75 bolt .22, and a couple of handguns Police Positive .38 and aHigh Standard target .22. They are always special and my grandpa had nothing that wasn't kept perfect fortunately.

I wish I was so lucky. He lived right over the top of a creek. The a couple of guns had a little surface rust in spots but not bad. The M1 had no rust on the ourside at all but the barrel had some. So far she has given me 14 of his guns. A 870 410, 870 20, Winchester model 12 12 ga trap gun, a US revolver 32. Also a S&W 28 357, Colt challenger 22. Plus all the loading gear and bullet making stuff, alpng with about 600 pounds of lead.
I know had had MANY more guns but I was compleatly happy with what she wanted me to keep in the family. The storys will be passed to my kids and their kids I hope. What a weekend. Ron

Try that 340 with cast and you will be very happy. Most are great shooters but with only 1 front locking lug they are not the platform for red line loads. Gianni.
