the airlines are not consistant at all about the extra baggage fee, sometimes they remember, sometimes not. it is at the discretion of the ticket agent. i have had it go both ways, but you are probally just as well off looking at alternate means.
Duct tape, garden hose & cardboard pieces applied liberally.

Pygmy, it's interesting to here that USPS doesn't require a box, but I guess that can also be a good thing. First as you said, you don't have to find a box and secondly, whoever delivers your antlers may have more respect for the package if they can see it's contents.

I don't know about where you live, but where I live the Postal Service can't even deliver letters or magazines without damage. Do you really want to trust your antlers to them???
